My Parents have recently given Me a 1973 31' Airstream Sovereign. Which has been sitting in their back yard for the last 10 to 12 years in Florida. In April I had a chance to inspect it and noticed a few things that need to be done before I can transport it to Northern Kentucky. All four tires need to be replaced along with all four bearings. All clearance lights will have to be replaced. I know this is going to sound like a stupid question. Is there anything else I need to check on to ensure a safe transport to Northern Kentucky? Once I get it to Kentucky I plan on restoring it. I will be doing most of the work myself.. Any advice I can get I would appricate it
Others will chime in here shortly, but just off the top of my head:
1. Check or have the brakes checked when replacing bearings. Take a look at the axles.
2. Is your tow vehicle adequate? That's a big trailer.
3. Do you have load distirbution/anti sway set up?
Those seem like the big safety items. You might also check security of items like the AC cover so that it doesn't blow off, vent covers, etc.
Fyrzowt has stated some good things to check. I would also verify the operation of the lights (brake, turn, etc). You could always rig up a temp setup for the trip home. Also make sure the door latches well. Most airstream doors open into the wind and can be ripped off if they open at hwy speeds. Good luck with your trailer and keep in touch....
