"New" 69 Airstream
I am here because I just bought a 27ft, 1969 airstream, I think...It's not in good shape, tho I think it's beautiful, and the woman I bought it from, knew nothing about it, and gave me a box of paperwork with it, little of which was even about it. The title turned out to be for another trailer, and now I'm really worried. I think the #'s on a plaque by the front door are the id #'s, but I can't read them. Are they somewhere else on the trailer also?

On my 73 safari there is another plate on the front street side corner with the ID #. I am not sure if my 69 has it there or not. I am not home right now so I can't go check.

Welcome! These guys can help with anything. I'm a newbie, too, but I've learned a lot in the few weeks I've had my AS. You can get a salvage title. Just enjoy fixing her up!

Jeff, if you're having trouble making out the numbers by the door, you might try to do a rubbing with a soft lead pencil on a piece of paper across them and see if you can get something to come up. Good Luck. Phyllis

Thanks Phyllis, and everyone else. This is still all sinking in. I got up at 4:30 this morning, got dressed and went outside to make coffee in the trailer, (I hav'nt had time to get to the gas system yet, so I was using my camp stove). I will try uysing a pencil this afternoon as soon as I get off.
Also, as suggested, as soon as I can get the money I'll get a camera and start documenting the rebuilding of my new home!
I just can't express how thrilled I am! I have been renting a room from friends for the last year, while trying to recouperate, physically, financially and emotionally, from illness. But never dreamed of owning a TT that was so cool! And this website!
OK, sorry, I'll stop gushing soon. Jeff

Sounds like things are falling into place for you! Getting your Airstream is very exciting. When we got ours, I dragged my husband out to sleep in it in the driveway! And, I bet we weren't the first ones to do that. You just have to set your pace and work on it as you have time and money. A good cleaning is cheap and makes a world of difference, quick.

OK, I'm back...This is a bit overwhelming, But, I did the rubbing, and magnifying glass, and have it down pretty good, except for one #, and then I noticed on the same plack, another set of #,s above the ones I was working on...only five didgets I think. I don't think they are relevant. I hope. The #,s I have been working on start with 1, (which is suppost to be the model, I think) anyway, the next two #,s are the length which is right, and everything else, until I get to the last 4, there are only 3, I'm missing one # that is supposed to be assigned by the factory. I guess that is pretty confusing, so sorry. And, I don't have a camera yet, but am definitely going to get one. Thanks again.

Trailers in the 60s had 3 numbers at the end. In the 70s they went to 4 numbers.

Check with others here on the forums but I think you might be able to contact Airstream in Jackson Center and see if those numbers are a match for your AS. If so, then you may be on your way to establishing the VIN for a title. I'm not sure of the details of how that works but a call to the DMV in TX might help you with that.

That won't work, because there is no DMV in Texas.
Titles are handled by the county tax assessor's office. The folks down at the Brazos County courthouse can help you.
Best of luck with the Airstream.
