"New" '68 Safari

Hello! We are reaping many benefits from the experience of the members on the forum. Thank you all! We took our maiden voyage last weekend to the Sonoma Coast and were treated to some beautiful weather (for January). A few problems: still a few window leaks, a mystery toilet leak, a mystery leak at the entryway and the refrig still isn't working. But we had fun and received many thumbs up and questions from strangers. We will continue to use the forum a lot--thanks!

We're glad you're here! That is such a beautiful setup - no wonder you get lots of thumbs-up on the road. We've had our '67 Safari for 6 1/2 years and still battle the occasional mystery leak, but the enjoyment we get from our Airstreams more than outweighs the occasional headache. Hope you will feel the same way!

When you get ready to check out the refer and other things we are here to help. Pictures of the refer front and back will be of great help. Do you think it is the original refer?

1968 is all about window leaks. I'm still having leaks so I keep my can of acriyl ready for leak patrol. Saying that, I love our 68 for all the windows and real wood.

Thanks for your responses! We're pretty sure the Dometic model MA52a is the original. We are just beginning to trouble shoot it now as we've been concentrating on repairs that keep the rain on the outside. We just finished sealing the window hinge points per the instructions from this forum and are applying new weatherstripping. We are definitely enjoying working on our Safari and looking forward to many trips in it!

Seems to work pretty well on LP. Haven't tried the 12 volt yet. Other than a cracked freezer door assembly (that I sure would like to find a replacement for), the main hassle is lighting the pilot. We can do it with 2 people by opening the access door and the other holding in the red button till it stays lit.
Can anyone tell me if it is an easy proposition to retrofit a piezo bar-b-que type sparker to this unit so it can be lit from inside? (and hopefully where to find a suitable one)
Any help or advise would sure be appreciated.
