Mississippi Airstreamer

Well I give up. After viewing the fourm for several months I really NEED the search function...
Intro's- The wife and I became Airstreamers after Katrina ate our SOB Motorhome and we found we have terminal camp'itis. June brought an e-bay listing for a '77 Ambassidor here in our lovely home state so we bought it on a 6 hour notice (including the 4 hour drive).

Other than some tin damage behind the RR tire (PO's attempted a 6 hour tow on the original 28 year old tires...), the unit looks basically unused. It did need a new belt in the 8-track before I could enjoy my vintage collection. Oh yea, the LED clock is DOA .

Some info for others. Yup in '77 they did use some 5" frame rails. My rear bath unit has one. It also has factory frame stiffeners.

More posts forthcoming...Gimme a rivit!

Hello HiHoAgRV -- and welcome to the Forums! I think you will get your first rivet with your 5th post. I'm not an expert on frames but one post here discusses some timing on the transition from 4" to 5" frames. This came about due to rear end separation issues with longer trailers during the years of ownership by Beatrice Foods. Come back often!

A big welcome to the Forums. That's a great looking Ambassodor.

Check out the Florida get-together string on these Forums. We have organized an Airstream Extravaganza in the Florida Panhandle (half way between Panama City and Pensacola). It is being held the first weekend in January at one of the nicest campgrounds anywhere.

Consider this a personal invitation to attend and interact with other "aluminum wackos". We would very much like to see you there. Santa Rosa Beach is only about 300 miles from Branden, an easy pull.

If you decide to attend, be sure to reserve a site soon as this park attracts a lot of snowbirds.

Welcome - glad you decided to register (the search feature really is worth it!) Looks like a very nice Ambassador, and I'd love to see some more pictures. Happy travels -

moosetags-
We did the Ft. Pickens run for years until Mother Nature decided to mess up our playgroung. I hope they get it reopened sometime soon. We really miss the beachtime. January on the beach? Burr! The older I get, the further south, "south" really is. By my definition the dividing line is currently around I-20

Oh Yea, next Thursday is our Airstreams 30th birthday, 11-16-76 build date.

Welcome neighbor. As you can see, I live in Brandon also (near the Reservoir)

Your '77 looks beautiful.

Welcome from a fellow Mississippian at the opposite end of the state! Great looking piece of aluminum you have. I'm sure you will soon hear from another Mississippian, Rebel Beck.

dmreilly10000-
Small world. We are off 471 just south of 25. You have a great looking '53. Things like that catch my eye but I haven't see it on the road. We actually started off trying for a '50's Spartan that's behind a friends house. It has so much stuff inside they didn't want to clean it out for us to get the camper. The plan was a custom redo similar to one we did on a '60's Holiday Rambler Houseboat (yup, H.R. made boats for a short time). Kinda glad we ended up with the Airstream, I didn't really need another project.

I love the look of Spartans, but that would have been a BIG project. Also, I'm sure they do not tow as well as an Airstream. Except for some of the smaller Spartans and Spartanetts, these were really semi-permanent housing used after WWII.

It looks like you have found a gem of an Airstream.

Look at my photos in the photo section and you can see the other Airstreams I have owned. The 1953 I currently have is not useable yet. I have a lot of work to do on the inside. I recently finished replacing all of the windows in it due to vandalism. Here is my sad story:

You will find this forum extremely helpful and fun. I have.

Welcome, as you see there are more Airstream owners closer than you think.
If you need any help or advise, just send a message.

Mississippi rally

I just got the message, we were out camping like good owners should be.
Let us know when your planning the next get-together, I would like to participate. The only Airstream I've ever been inside is, well, sitting in my back yard!

Follow the link in my signature line for the 2007 Can Opener.

I consider north to be anything North of the South Shore of Lake Pontchartrain, which can be a moving target at times.
