Love my T@B, but looking for a vintage Bambi

So glad I found you!

Currently, I have a 2007 T@B 16Q. I've LOVED camping in it these past 4 years, but I'm looking to upgrade, and a vintage Airstream seems the only way to go. I tow with a 2002 Saab 9-3 convertible, and soon with a 2010 VW Golf TDI. Looks like I need to find a 1964 Bambi II, and pre-1963 Bambi. Some years, I've spent 10 weeks in my trailer - I'm a musician and use it for lodging when campng is practical. I love the simplicity of my T@B (no hookups other than electric), but being self-contained would give me more options, and I'd love a little more headroom (I'm 6'2").

I ran into female.nomad's rig (2009 Jetta TDI w/1962 Bambi) this week and am totlaly inspired, and encouraged. She was kind enough to call me after I left a note on her car... I love towing safely with a small (but capable) vehicle. Once you're camped, you have an economical car to enjoy.

I get 30MPG in my Saab normally, and 19MPG towing. Not too bad...

Anyone who know of a Bambi for sale to look at within a day or two drive of Delaware? One with a recent axle?

Thanks.

Dan

Hi Dan

Welcome to the airforums. Many gigging musicians here.

As you are probably aware the actual towing capabilities of the Golf TDI are controversial. Some might say that you could look at trailers somewhat larger depending on the road conditions where you camp. In my situation I often park in places with poor traction which limits my alternatives for tow vehicles.

Early 1960s Bambis are sought after and difficult to find. Good luck in your search.

I love VW Golf TDIs but I'm not sure I'd be comfortable towing much of a trailer with one. That's just me.

We had a T@B before our Airstream, We really enjoyed it, it was cute and everywhere we went people wanted to look inside! But the lack of a bathroom and frequent trips to campground toilets in the middle of the night in the rain, soon got us thinking we needed something bigger. We sold the T@B and moved up to a 2002 23' CCD, we loved that trailer and used it for a few years, but while it had a shower and toilet, it was a wet bath, so then we upgraded to a 98 31' Excella. No more wetbath and much more room for the dogs. Now when we look back, we wonder how we ever got along in the T@B.
