Looking for Towing Advice

Hi - I am a newcomer to RV Life - from Tennessee. We are embarking on buying an Airstream (27' Globetrotter) and currently have a Porche Cayanne. Does anyone have experience in or advice on towing the Globetrotter with a Cayanne? Many thanks - RPQ

Forum link to Audi-VW-Cayanne

Hi, you came to the right place! There are 87 pages of discussion on towing with an Audi-VW-Cayanne here: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f46...134917-87.html

We had a VW Touareg TDI and towed a 23’ Flying Cloud; it was an awesome tow vehicle. When we traded up to a 27’ Globetrotter I considered taking the trip up to Canada to see Andy, the guru of modifying these vehicles. He does it by adding supports to the factory hitch.

My concern was going over the payload of the vehicle and what might happen if we were involved with an accident (insurance questions). Our 27’ has a tongue weight of 1100 lbs loaded for camping. The Touareg had a max tongue weight of 770 lbs, and 1140 payload.

We ultimately decided to trade the Touareg and now tow with a RAM 2500 6.4 Hemi with 2940 lbs payload. I do miss the Touareg but not worrying about being overloaded is worth the trade-off.

Good luck with your decision!
