Looking
Hi, we just sold our foretravel 40 ft. RV because it was just too much work to keep it maintained and all the electronics working. also too long to deal with.
We are looking for a airstream 26 to 29ft. so we can get into the national parks, and so I can help with the driving. We have our tow vehicle and can tow 7800 # so now are searching for the airstream. hard work.
If anyone can tell me if there is a site where you can determine the low, medium and high end of the units for previous years it would help. It is very confusing as they seem to have different model names for each year.
we hope to join some airstream clubs for travel.

In recent years, the mdel names are Safai, International, and Classic (low to high). You don't mention how old you want to go. The only recent model in your stated range in a 28'. There is also a 25' and a 31'. If your 7800# TV capacity is the manufacturer's sataed limit, you really need to stay below 80% of that (6240#). A modern 28' would probably be more that you would want to tow with that TV. Even a modern 25' can gross over 7000#.
Go to airstream.com and look at some of the current models and features. Also go to Ebay and querry airstream and sort by price (high to low). You will see a lot of units for sale with good photos.
Have more questions? Just ask.

Where to look for new
Hi, Nice to have you here!
Airstreams website is pretty poor but go there anyway.
Colonial Airstream has a great website with lotsa pictures and tech data.
Let us know how the search goes and when you choose one we want pictures.

thanks for all the replies.
We are ready to buy when we find it. Want it by May for use in July, Aug. Sept.
Can't afford new, but condition will be of concern.
We don't need another major project. We are both tired of that. minor repair, changes expected.

bina,
Don't forget to look in the classifieds here and...
You really should nose around on the Forum to find out what to look for in an Airstream. Things like.
Axles. How to tell at a glance if they are worn out.
Floors, How and what to look for.
Rear end sag, Some years and models are prone to it.
These are the big ticket items.
As seasoned RV people you already know how to check systems.
An observation. IMHO Already restored units from a private party are the best deal $$$ wise.

We bought a 28' AS in Nov and feel that we were lucky to find and get it. If you would like to see it as a starter point to judge pricing, you are welcome.
We live in Bonita Springs, which is not far from Cape Coral.
The problem buying an AS is finding one and being first to get there!
