kc's-airstream

HELLO FELLOW AIRSTREAMERS,

My name is Keith C. I just bought a 78-international sovreign31. It's in very good condition with a small list of problems so far ! ! ! But from what I have read so far and having a friend who has had one for 8yrs. I'm sure as time ticks on, it will be a endless list! ! ! But thats ok I love the look inside & out! ! ! My very first problem is the door's lock & tumbler-the key is very stubborn to lock but easier to unlock. Can I replace the tumbler without having to replace the entire doorlatch? So the work begins!!! But shooting that monster buck while living in total comfort will be this hunters dream come true!!! I also plan to give it a lot of traveling, but not until Im sure the frame and suspension is structuraly sound! So being a fellow Airstreamer owner I'm sure I'll be here often, I'm looking forward to learn the total structure from rear bumper to the hitch from the tire tread patch to the heating & air cover!!! There wil be no butchering of this Airstream!!! So bye for now! ! ! kc's-airstream

I truly do appreciate your offer to help, but I guess I should have mention that I live in powdersprings, ga. only 25 miles from atlanta. My local airstream service center is three way campers in marietta, ga.. I'm a big do it your-selfer! So paying someone to fix something is my very last resort. thank you kc

This is the only place you will need for all the DIY fix it needs for your camper.

Hi KC, Lots of DIY-ers here, some more than others of course.
Welcome to "our world" of streaming.
This is a great place to not only learn, but share what you know.
Glad to have you.

Keith, InlandRV.com or VintageTrailerSupply.com may carry the lock assembly you need to repair yours. Any A/S dealer should be able to check if A/S factory stocks those parts to make you good again. Then pick your poison as to best price/product. Happy Trails, Ed

Before you tear it apart try lubing it through the key slot and working it back and forth. It may just be corroded or dirty.

Keith,

Airstream makes a replacement lock that does require modification of the door and the jam. I have an 1984 and had to replace mine. I could not find an older lock for my coach anywhere. Good luck.
