Just Starting in Alabama
I’m in the process of purchasing a 1999 Excella 1000 Classic 31W. My plan is to fix it up and then use it to travel both before and during my retirement. I look forward to meeting some of you and learning from most of you. Cheers!

Welcome and congratulations on the rig. We’ll expect pictures of the fixing up process.

Welcome from Colorado, and welcome to the Airstream owner's community. Your 99 Excella will make a very nice and comfortable travel trailer. You will have to go through it with a fine toothed comb and find any problems with the electrical and plumbing systems, make sure all the appliances work, and do a find detailing of the trailer. Also look for evidence of rain water leaks. Get yourself a good hitch and make sure your tow vehicle will handle the trailer safely.
Then hit the road and enjoy travel adventures off the beaten path.

Thank you!
The trailer has been in my sister’s extended family for years. While most of the appliances work, I know I’m going to have to repair/replace the air conditioning and the furnace. There’s little to no rust. There is a leak where a window was removed by my niece’s former husband, but the floor below it seems firm. There some obvious water stains. I’ll be going over it and fixing/updating over the next year.
I appreciate your response and suggestions, and look forward to being a part of the community.
Ben

Of course. I’m not sure where to post them, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

1999 was a good year for Classics...
We've had our 1999 Excella Classic since 2005 and love it! We were recently considering upgrading to a new one but couldn't justify the price since this one is in nearly perfect shape (we store it inside). Doesn't have all the new technology, but I'm retrofitting some (solar) and based on reviews don't want some of the rest (Alde system). Besides, we love our soft-toned oak interior.
We had done a lot of research when buying (used) and determined this was a good model year for minimal problems.

Sometimes technology is not your friend. I envy the folks with manual patio awnings, for example.
