"Just Looking"

Dear Fellow Travelers:
I am hooked on Airstreams and have started searching for the perfect trailer to explore the States and Alaska. I traveled with my two Yorkies over eleven thousand miles in four months about five years ago, and I'm getting itchy feet again. This time I'd like it if my husband could take some time away from work and join me in my travels. He still has about five years to go until retirement though. I traveled in a van suitable for one, and now I'd like to have room for two, and maybe even room for the grandkids. I don't know if I want a big restoration project, but I do want to get something with a bit of vintage appeal.
Sincerely,
Elizbeth in Vista, California
I am also on photosbyelizabeth/myspace/com.

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to the forums! You might want to check out www.vintageairstream.com for lots of great pictures and layouts, to get a feel for the different years of vintage Airstreams out there. For newer models, visit the Airstream corporate website. Many of the newer models have vintage appeal, too! Also, familiarize yourself with the search feature on this site (blue bar at the top of the screen) - you're sure to find answers to many of your questions there. Good luck with your search!

Hi Elizabeth in California, and a big welcome to the Forums. You'll find a lot of great Airstream info here. There's a lot of Airstreams out there in every conceivable age, size, and configuration.

Don't forget to take a look at the more recent models (5 to 15 years old). These are usually the best priced for what you get, and were built with all the modern conveniences. Granted they are not vintage but then, on the other hand, aren't all Airstreams vintage looking to the average person on the street.

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome Eliz!

Good suggestions here! Finding just the right Airstream is a "big" job... but it can be done! Sounds like you have been camping and know what kind of thing you are looking for. I would suggest, however, you read through the thread at this link. It may come up with some ideas for you to consider that you haven't thought of.

http://www.airforums.com/forum...eam-22920.html

I might suggest, however, that if you look at vintage (which I love, by the way...) unless you find one that has been restored, or that one in a million stored its lifetime in a heated/airconditioned garage... you will probably face some restoration costs. If I had to say one thing that is the most to look for... it is the floors. They rot out. Replacement is a big deal.

Good luck! Hope to see you on the road 'streamin by!
