Just got a 77 Argosy 20

Hi all,

I looked for a year and a half and finally found a good trailer for my uses. I'm excited to join the airstream community. I am a member of several forums and find it a great way to learn and share information.

My first need is to get the trailer shipped. Google is full of shipping options but many are quoting services as opposed to shippers themselves. Any advice you can offer for whom to use would be greatly appreciated as I get started.

I am also looking for dimensional specs on that model - exact length width and height, weight, and ball height.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions later. Thanks.

Where is the trailer going from/to? Might help you hook-up with a shipper...

Oh yeah, congratulations on your find and welcome to the family!

The specifications vary slightly depending upon whether the coach is an Argosy 20 or a Minuet 6.0 Metre -- they both have the same VIN pattern:

20D7V(or S)XXXX

The 20 represents the length as sold by Arogsy, the V indicated Versailles, OH factory while the S indicated Cerritos, CA factory, the last four characters represent the sequential production number.

There are several methods for distinguishing between the two coaches as follows:
  • Most Minuets have a badge mounted in the beltline molding identifying the coach as a Minuet -- but these may have been removed by a previous owner -- and it is possible that the early coaches may not have had the badge.
  • The Minuets all had a 7.0' floor width while the Argosy 20 had a 7' 8" floor width.
  • If the coach has the front lounge floorplan, the Minuet does not have arms on the lounge while the Argosy 20 does have an arm on the lounge.
  • All Argosy 20s that I have encountered have plywood floors while most (but not all) Minuet 6.0 Metre coaches have had composite aluminum floors.
The Minuet has an overall length of 19' 3", empty weight of approximately 2,450 pounds with a GVWR of 3,250 pounds. The exterior height with air conditioner (factory Armstrong Bay Breeze) is 10' 9". Its hitch height is listed as 18" but may be lower depending upon axle wear.

The Argosy 20 has quite similar but not identical specifications. I will need to check my data to verify, but I do know that its floor width is 7' 8". The empty weight is about 350 pounds greater. The Argosy 20 (according to my memory) has a 19" hitch height, but again this may be less depending upon axle wear.I am not certain about the overall length and height of the Argosy 20, but should have this information in my files and will check later this evening.

I am sure that you will enjoy your Argosy -- I just returned from a two week 1,900 mile adventure with my Minuet -- it is such a pleasure and has much less impact on my fuel expense than my Overlander.

Hi zimbop and welcome! Did you purchase the Minuet that was on ebay? Looked like a wonderful trailer. We also own a 77 Minuet and love it. Took it on a 3000 mile roundtrip in June/July and had a blast.

Yes I purchased the one on ebay from Dan, known here as gotair. I see now that he posted it here in the classified section. I guess I shouldn't be surprised to run into him here too. :-)

Thanks for the tips and friendly welcome. I'm looking forward to some exciting adventures with our trailer.
