Just Getting Started

Hello everyone!

Admittedly, I've been perusing the forums and searching for a few weeks now, but this is my first post. I must say, there sure is a lot of information that comes from a vast amount of experience on the forums, and it seems like pretty much everyone is really friendly! I've already learned a lot and I feel like I'm just scratching the surface. I'll be returning frequently for more information and will probably have some questions along the way; hopefully I can contribute some good information as well.

I don't actually have an AS yet, but I will soon. My grandfather lived in an '85 Sovereign that he purchased in 1986, if I remember correctly. I still remember the first time I saw it and he walked me around to teach me about it and probably show it off a bit After he passed, it sat for a little while and then was moved to a property where an older brother of mine used it. Its been sitting now, for about 2 years with very little attention paid to it, but I'll be gaining possession of it soon and intend on putting it back in proper working order. I'm really excited about it!

I'll be heading down this weekend (250 mile trip) to go over it with a fine tooth comb and take a look at everything so I can make sure I'm prepared when I go back to actually bring it home. Before I hitch up to it the first time, I know I'll be getting new tires (maybe wheels also), checking bearings, brakes, axles, all the running gear and seals all the way around, and going over everything on the interior to check for any signs of damage, leaks etc. Everything is in pretty much original condition (AC and fridge have been replaced) and it seems like I'm in a rare position to know almost all of the history of this AS. There will definitely be some work to repair, replace and update, but I'm excited about the ride! I'm looking forward to the day the work is done and I can say we're headed out for our first trip!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'll start snapping pics this weekend, and will continue through the process. I'll probably use them to start a blog to track from start to ... well, "finish" doesn't sound right since this will be a continuing journey. I guess we'll just call it "from start to now."
