just bought our first travel trailer- A 69 Sovereign Airstream.

It will be delivered today! We are thrilled. It needs work, but we are the people to do it. I am excited to find the group. My husband, Joel, will be using this posting too. We're not sure what we'll do with our trailer, but I guess the possibilities are endless. I think we'll have lots of questions and hurdles to overcome as we get to know our new aluminum friend. Are we naive or just overly excited about our 69- maybe both? We'll touch base with you all after we get it. I am a little concerned about transport as we live up a windy country road on Sonoma Mountain, so keep your fingers crossed.
More later, Michelle and Joel

Michelle and Joel, welcome! Like you, we weren't quite sure what we were getting into when we first bought our Safari, but this forum was a huge help in getting us through all of the work. Get to know the search feature - lots of answers are there for questions you haven't even thought of yet! Also, let us see some pictures once your new Airstream makes it home! Good luck.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Airstreams and this Forum. Did your trailer find its way to it's new home? We love pictures here. No matter what it looks like, just remember it's an Airstream and it can be restored.

Welcome to these Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

We need to see pictures. The more bedraggled the candidate, the more interest he will generate. The motto here is "all Airstreams need to be saved fronm the aluminum recycler".

Welcome!
As others have suggested, there is a world of info here. The search function can be very useful, I sometimes just browse the different areas of interest to me. Any way you do it, you will be sure to learn as I have.
Glad to have you here,
Dave

Happy 2008 - Our "girl" is finally home!

Well we finally got her home (after a few scrapes up the driveway). Had a great first night watching the sunset and admiring the beautiful archtiecture from inside. So far we have removed the carpet to expose the floor and are still scratching our heads wondering what to do next. Still trying to figure out how to navigate the site - so please dont take it personally if we dont respond right away. I just figured out how to add pictures so check em out and we'll be sure to add more.

Thanks for the response and the warm welcome. Sorry for such a late reply - we are still figuring out how to navigate the site. I just added some photos... more to follow.

Happy New Year.

69s mark a significant change in interior and exterior design both good and bad. 69 was the beginning of the window with rounded corners, the end of the squarish jaulosy windows, the beginning of the lighter faux dark walnut interiors the end of oak laminated plywood, the beginning of the lighter frames of the Beatrice years. Personally I think the 70s (including 69) are the purdiest, but I'm biased as I have had several. But make sure you check the axles and if there is any rear end sag, problems that the early 70s models and especially Sovereign are prone to.

We love our 69 tradewind, and love that it still is an all wood cabinet setup. It is odd sometimes finding those pesky only 1969 parts like bathroom light lenses but wouldn't trade it for the world (I'll avoid the puns). Welcome!

I think you have yourself something good to work with, three are all kinds of posibilities, keeping ti original or remodel how you like, it's up to how you want it to look.
