Just bought our first Airstream today!! - Texas

We're so excited! We've been researching, watching videos, visiting the local dealer so often they thought we worked there, poring over the Airstream Classifieds, and today we pulled the trigger!! 2017 Flying Cloud 25! Now we just need to figure out how everything works (there are hoses, nozzles, switches, plugs, etc. everywhere!!)

Welcome from Pennsylvania

Welcome to the Forums and Airstream community. I'm sure you've figured out the plugs and switches already and in a few days you'll have mastered the hoses and nozzles, but when a question does come up, the folks here are very gifted and willing to help. Enjoy!

Please share how you progress on the learning curve. We are in the same boat and appear to be similar ages.....We are interested in the 23' FB to use for a few three weeks trips per year. I am about to retire and know nothing about this other than reading Rick Luhr's newbie book. Kids are out of the house so it will be my wife and I exploring the country. Off to the RV show in Hershey. One thing going for us is that we live only 90 minutes from Colonial Airstream.

Phil1ben, we will definitely do that. We really don't know anything about trailers so our learning curve will be huge! I am still working full time and Tim is working part time so we will only be taking the trailer out a few times per year until we both decide to permanently retire. Right now we're in the paperwork process (insurance, storage agreements, etc) so it's not the fun part and our "wish" list of accessories is getting very long (and expensive) on Amazon.com!! But one piece at a time and I'm sure, before we know it, we'll be experienced Airstreamers like everyone else on the forums!!

I have no right to give advice but "The Newbies Guide to Airstreaming" which can also be bought on Amazon was very helpful to me. It was a good primer to start my education.

Best advice. Tighten ALL the fittings on the sink traps and anywhere you have plumbing pipe fittings.

Welcome and congratulations on your purchase. We almost bought the same trailer but couldn't pass up the Pendelton. Yours was our second choice.
My advice is take short weekend trips at first close to home to get used to it. Make out checklists for hooking up and breaking camp and one for when you get where your going. There is a lot to learn and just when you think you won't forget anything, the checklist reminds you of something you forgot.

Safe travels.

Congratulations, Welcome.

It's official, you have the Aluminum sickness. There is no cure but a lot of traveling, meeting interesting people and adult refreshments will help.

Don't forget the thingamajigs, whatchamacallits, and dohickies.. Don't leave home without them.

Enjoy

Hello and nice to meet you. There is a wealth of information on AirForums. You're wise to sign up.

Our family has been Airstreaming since the early eighties. I distinctly remember seeing my father in law's new 86 Limited for the first time and thinking it is very much like a business jet; small, lightweight, and very luxurious. They traveled all over North America for the next 20 years and loved it. They spent many winters in Texas Airstream Harbor in Zavalla. Made good friends there.

We have the trailer now and are doing the same thing. It's been in the family since new. Makes retirement very enjoyable. Airstreams are unique travel trailers, built much different than the typical travel trailer. Join some of the Airstream clubs, join a rally or caravan, and meet a lot of nice folks.

You're in for a lot of new adventures in your Airstream.

David
