Just bought a 1969 or 70 Caravel

Hi:
We owned a 1976 31' Airstream for eight years and sold it last January. We have been looking for something older and smaller and just brought our Caravel home last Friday. We found it in a field, behind a barn in the mountains of Virginia. It is all original and cleaning up well. Still a little confused about the year. On the trailer tag on the front it says December 1969 and on the title it says 1970.

The layout is dinette in front with small kitchen, couch in back with bathroom.
All the wood is cleaning up well. The air conditioner looks to be factory installed when the trailer was new.
We love it and look forward to meeting any other Caravel owners!

Windows

A 69 would have a square rear / front window, with the sides rounded. A 70 would have all rounded windows. Insert a few pictures when you get the chance. Rob

Model years change over earlier than calendar years. It could be a 1970 model that was prodcued in late 1969. If you have the serial number from the plaque near the door, that can be decoded to clearly identify the model year.

For a 1970 Caravel the serial number should be in the format of:
Ohio: B 18 T 0 J NNN
California: B 18 T 0 S NNN

For a 1969 Caravel it should be:
Ohio: O D 18 9 J NNN
California: O D 18 9 S NNN

where NNN is the build sequence number, T=Twin beds, & D=Double bed.

Hello, I am an owner of a 1971 Caravel, but i know it is a 1970. I have the real wood interior that the 71's didn't. I am piecing back together the front dinette and would appreciate any pictures of the construction. Let me know it i can be of any help, I have a lot of picures. Chances are with a dinette up front and rounded lower corners on you front windows it is a 1970

can't wait to get home and take a closer look at my Carvel! It's got rounded front windows, square back window, and dinette up front. I've always said it was a '71.

The 1969 model carried over the non roll up over heads. With a gaucho up front, no dinette. With the lower square front windows. with real wood interior. A completely different layout than the 1970 and 1971. The 1970 has the real wood interior the 1971 didn't.
