Smile Introduction

Hi I'm Suse, I love Rving. At present, I have a 1997 Airstream Land Yacht. That has been gutted and returned unfinished. I would like to get to know more about the world of outdoor living and travel. My son passed a year ago and the rv was his project, so I'm in limbo, whether to continue with the renovations or our trade for smaller. Thanks for meeting, hope you all have a great day!

Sorry for your loss. Starting a new chapter in your life that includes the great outdoors and RVing is a life to look forward to. There is a lot of work and expense that goes into a complete renovation. Up to you, but you may opt for a shorter more manageable AS. There is still a market for used Airstreams. To decide on size, you may check out any WBCCI rallies coming up and pay them a visit to see what feels comfortable. Good luck

Welcome Suse. It's great to have you as part of this community. There are a number of very knowledgeable members who can help you assess the work involved if you decided to go down the renovation path.

I am sure it will be a wonderful adventure either way - renovate or trade up.

Another greeting from Colorado: An Airstream is a special travel trailer as they are so recognizable and comfortable. Sure, there is a lot to learn about towing a trailer and handling issues as they come up. I find these Airstream Forums an excellent resource for all things related to the Airstream brand. The Airstream owner's community, clubs, rallies and social events are much fun.

Renovating a vintage Airstream is certainly a big project requiring a lot of different system knowledge, such as plumbing, carpentry, electricity, mechanics, sheet metal, finishing, and the like. I enjoy working with my hands and learning how to do these things. You might like it too. A well renovated Airstream would likely return the material costs of the renovation. But to hire all the work done professionally probably would not return the investment. This is just my opinion.

You can study the Airstream Classifieds on these Forums and search for your year range and see the range of asking prices for "project" trailers and "renovated" ones. It is a big range.

I talk to much. Anyway, welcome to these Forums and I believe folks will be happy to answer any question you might have.

David
