I just acquired my first Airtstream yesterday. It is a 2005 Safari FB/LS. It is virtually brand new as the previous owner had never spent a night in it. I spent most of the day checking things out. I believe I will need to replace the batteries as the PO never charged them during the two years it has been sitting. After a day of charging they are only showing less than 50 % on the monitor.
This is my fourth RV having owned two Class C motorhomes and a tent camper in the past. I am pulling it with a 2007 Tahoe with the 3.42 rear end, and have an Equalizer hitch and Prodigy brake controller.
The Tahoe is doing fine with the trailer empty except for full propane tanks.
I found that cruise control was OK on the flat but not so god for hilly terrain at the speeds I was traveling (50 -55 MPH). When I could go a little faster the engine RPM came up into the power band more and it performed a little better.
The most amazing thing was backing it in to the driveway with my wife's directions. It was much easier than I thought it was going to be (which was bordering on impossible). I have a boat triler of similar length and it is darned near impossible to get it in the drive.
I have been reading the forum for a couple of years and looking for my first Airstream. My only regret is that I did not buy one two years ago when gas was a little less expensive.
Welcome to the Forums. Were Glad to ahve you with us.
Congratulations on your new Baby. We also have an '05 25FB. Great floorplan. We have 250+ nights in our Lucy and have pulled her 30,000 miles. We are in central Maine as we write this on a four week Maine adventure.
