Identify an Airstream in the UK

Hello all, I have this beauty here in the UK and am trying real hard to get it registered, but cannot find any links to age it from the VIN.
These were supplied chassis only I think so the VIN is not a regular one.
Any help appreciated, she is in the workshop and used for a catering truck and bar!

Before and after is always brilliant!

I read the GM Chassis plate as
CPS3783322941

In the UK you register using the GMC VIN (the one on the VIN plate in your photo, although they normally start CPY.....). DVLA will issue you a License Plate that is in keeping with the year of manufacture.

BTW it is a 1978, and will have a second plate for the 'coach' on one of the radiator support legs.

The Argosy VIN will be something like M28 (28ft morothome) D or T (double or twin beds) 8 (year) V (Versailles - manufacturing plant) xxxx (the assembly number for that year.

Martin! Thank you so much I am going to find the Argosy ViN !

If I may ask how did you identify the year of manufacture, for the DVLA application I need to prove that date, from a club or certified or something, which is where I am struggling.
I shall report back, but wish to sincerely thank you for that information, sadly the paperwork for original import are blowin’ in the wind somewhere.

The colour scheme is a 'one year only' (last year of the Argosy). The other give away would be if you look at the rear lights, the 78 had individual square light surrounds which where litterally stuck on.

Used a near indentical one as a parts donor for my two 20ft re-builds.

The Argosy VIN will look like this.

The fourth digit is the model year (but keep in mind the chassis would have been built prior to that so a 78 model year could be on a 77 chassis).

Thinking about this for a minute.....

If its not registered, you should have got the FOSA documents from when it was imported, and you can only get the FOSA docuemts if you have a US Title/certified Bill of Sale, which includes the data of manufacture.

If you dont have the FOSA docs (which also prove the duty and scrappage tax has been paid on importation), you could have HMRC come chasing you.

What docs did you get when you bought the unit?

Good morning Martin that is really interesting, your donors are the same year.
The Airstream came paperless and has not been registered under that VIN with DVLA.
So once I have the information to prove the age I will bundle it up and probably use my agent for a NOVA import.
The duties are negligible and it’s about £200 to run it through to enable the NOVA.
It possibly came in through Holland but easier for me to restart the process here.

Thank you for the light duty truck Data, I am going give that a try with the application and report back.
Your assistance has been fabulous, these nuggeats make all the difference.
I shall find the VIN when I go to the unit and post a picture.
