Here's the Sugarloaf.

Hi everyone,

On Christmas Eve, I sealed the deal on a 1977 Sovereign International.

It's in rough shape -- PO was a major chainsmoker and literally died in it, then it sat unattended for a year. It's all kinds of nasty.

But I feel inspired, and the plan is to renovate and full-time in it.

It's gonna be an adventure. More pics and updates to come on my blog at dead reckon.

I doubt I would have taken the plunge were it not for the incredibly helpful information on these forums, so thanks to all the contributors!

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

I bought an old Steel River Queen Houseboat about 20 years ago, in that same PO 'expired' situation...The coroner's sticker was still on the door - CREEPY...but such a deal!

I hauled it to work, propped it up on some oil drums and completely rebuilt it...Sand blasted, bottom repair, rebuilt engine, etc., etc...it was a great river boat when all spruced up with new stuff and a fresh paint job!...

Erle Stanley Gardner, author of the Perry Mason series owned a couple of these house boats up here in the Sacto Delta area and wrote three books about his adventures...He used to bring his 'people' along and wrote some of his TV show scripts while out in the Delta backwaters...

Recycling old stuff can be fun (and challenging) sometimes...Did it again with our 78 Ambassador!...

Thanks guys! The past couple days have been fun. Let's just say I'm grateful for the invention of the Shop-Vac.

.....and remember 2nd hand smoke kills. Dude, you took on a project and I have great respect for someone that takes on a project like this. Do wear a respirator, some of that stuff can be nasty for the lungs.

Oh yeah, I refuse to go in the thing without gloves, goggles and a respirator... At least until it's painted.
