Smile Hello -- Newbie

Hello Everyone
Like a lot of people say, I am going to be retiring soon -- work less but not stopping. We have done a lot of camping from tents to tent trailers and now thinking of getting a small vintage AS -- 1960s and 16 to 20 foot.

We live in Huntington Beach and are just starting our quest.

Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Okie

Welcome to the forums!

You are looking for a pretty popular size of trailer. Do plenty of research so that you know what you are getting into. Decide how much restoration work you are interested in doing. Any 50 year old trailer that hasn't already had a lot of work done to it, will be needing a lot of work, whether it is obvious or not. There is plenty of information on the Forums, and you might also get hold of the back episodes of The VAP (Vintage Airstream Podcast), and you can listen to them as you go at your search. When you find your trailer, be ready to make a decision and buy. This size trailer doesn't last long.

Good Luck!

Is AWChief's trailer still for sale? It is the correct length and vintage and has all the work already done. He is only selling because he wants a 22-23' trailer.

There are Vintage AS, sites and groups within the AS, ask for links and/or private message opportunities.

Find AWChief - either by using the advanced Search or by going through the members list (LONG). Click on his profile - One of the options is "Send Private Message" - send a message asking him for the details.

PS also check "Classifieds" - Search for all vintage trailers.

AWChief's trailer is a 1964 17' Bambi II.
I don't remember his price, but I do remember he was firm on his price.
The trailer is road/camping ready.

It is a beautiful trailer with awning and IMHO a huge overkill a/c unit. One should never be too hot...

A couple of relevant phrases come to mind in the vintage trailer world.

You get what you pay for!

You can pay me now for a road ready rig or pay later to do lots of work before getting to go camping.

Welcome aboard and keep the eye balls lubricated because there is information overload on nearly every topic relating to Airstreams and camping. Also you will find lots of opinions, and we all know what those are worth.

Good luck in your quest for the perfect Airstream for you. It is out there.!

Vintage trailers, as classic cars, in many instances are less expensive to buy already done rather than pay for restoration.
I think I remember him saying that the trailer had a new axle.
At any rate, the trailer is in really good condition and ready to go anywhere as is.

Smile Jumping Into a "Bubble"

Hello Everyone

It has been awhile since I have posted anything. We have been mainly looking at older Bambis when I discovered "Bubbles". They meet what we want and look really neat. There aren't a lot for sale and I talked to several people trying to find some. I went to look at one that was totally gutted and ready for restoring but it just didn't seem right. I really like the "vintage original" look of the inside -- based only on pictures found on this site.

I looked at some on the forum and on the web and we found one that meets what we I am looking for in Texas and planning on leaving this week to go look and finalize the deal and bring her home to Huntington Beach . Bubble (need to come up with name) has been almost fully restored but keeping all the original vintage interior, even with the original heater. There are enough little projects that will allow me to get my feet wet without doing a 100% complete plunge into the deep -- which I am good at. My other half appreciates the "getting toes wet" concept. With my experience with a 1966 Bronco, one project will lead to at least 6 more. I wonder if my Bronco could pull Bubble-- maybe not safely

I'll keep you all informed of my "quest for the Bubble".

Thanks,

Carl and Beth

Red face Half Way There

We left this morning from Huntington Beach and drove to Las Cruces NM which puts us about half way to our final destination -- pod of whales in Texas. We should be at the pod on Friday AM to see our future Whale Tale Bubble. Will post pictures once we get there and all hooked up to TV.

Carl and Beth
