Hello from Washington
Finally got ourselves an Airstream FC 25FB! We have been reading through much of this forum and feel like we have learned a lot from those participating here. There are some ongoing projects we have lined up. If there is anything we think may be of interest to others we'll post our experience.
Peace.

25 fc
We also have a 25 FC vintage 2010 and live in Fall City just down the road from you.
It's time we form a regional club of some sort for the Airstreams in this area.

We wish we meant trips when we said projects but we really mean projects. This evening's involved a grinder, and a new riveter. Our new batteries turned out to be not so well, probably fried while sitting on the lot for the last 4-5 months. The local Interstate Batteries dealer generously replaced them with a size bigger, which was nice except that they didn't fit in the existing battery compartment. Out came the grinder and a bunch of other tools, off with the cover and the replacement batteries are now ensconced snugly. We even got to learn to rivet the cover back together. Tried to upload a few pictures but that doesn't seem to work.
We don't feel too bad about having to work on what is really a brand new trailer just because we have been reading the posts here for a while now and knew what to expect.
Tomorrow evening will signal the replacement of the multistage charger / converter ordered from Randy at Bestconverter.com.
Thank you all for the welcome! We have read various threads by you moosetags... very helpful indeed.

We replaced the Parallax 8355 unit with a PD 4655 today. There wasn't much cussing involved, but some bloodletting did take place, too many sharp edges out on that metal. Pity we can't post pictures because we took a few step by step images to make it a little bit clearer for the next person having a go at it. Thanks to David Watson at Progressive Dynamics for his help in the fitment process for the PD4655 to a Parallax 8355 chassis.
We haven't had batteries go bad on us before- we are quite diligent about checking water levels, etc. These were dead on arrival, but hopefully that's behind us so it's all good. We do plan to boon dock a bit and therefore the battery related aspect of things is a big component of our project list. We are thinking of getting a couple of portable solar panels, but are still in the early stages of planning for that.
We look at the grinder as a sort of christening ritual, thus making it 'our airstream'... it was too new, you see! That and the bloodletting should take care of the trailer deities and now we can venture out to some happy journeys!

PNW Airstreamers
I see several folks from the PNW on this post - wanderingduo, climber, nwgreyhound and others. My wife and I are new to the AS experience, having picked up our 2015 FC 23 FB 9 months ago. We learned quite a bit during a 95-day trip to St. John's, Newfoundland and also from these forums. Is anyone interested in visiting to share ideas and stories over wine, beer, or coffee somewhere between Woodinville and Fall City? We live in Redmond.

Westie, my wife and I would love to hear about your trip to the Maritimes. We're hoping to do that in a year or so. Don't think we'll get up to your area soon - we're in Oregon heading to California for awhile. Keep posting!
Cheers,
Climber

We're in Orange County now for Halloween. We get down here every other month or so, usually by driving. We hope to store thr AS here eventually to avoid winterization and allow easier use in the winter trips in the southern US.

We are new to the forum and will be purchasing an airstream in the future. We are just trying to learn as much as we can as we plow forward. I am guessing that there is some information somewhere on this site as to why you would change out the parallax converter?

RicnDebi, welcome! There's a lot of info on this site about swapping out Parallax converters. Use the Google search feature on the Airforums main page and you'll find all you need to know.
Cheers,
Climber

There are many threads here that talk about the pros of installing a multi stage charger and they will give you technical explanations of why a battery needs to be charged a certain way to top it off. Here is my not so technical explanation.
Do you know how in board games when you come close to the end of the game, someone chimes in and says you have to roll the exact number on the dice to make it to the finish square, and invariably you end up languishing there while they catch up and eventually finish the game?
Well charging a battery with a single stage charger is apparently like that, if you don't top the charge off with the exact trickle charge, the battery never really gets full. Instead it gets overcharged and you lose the game. With a multistage charger, you win the game every time and your battery thanks you for a complete charge.
I would suggest you call Randy at bestconverterdotcom and he will give you a better explanation.

So much to learn: hitches, tow vehicles, converters, campgrounds. This site is sure going to help get that onion peeled!! thanks for the explanation on battery charging.

The learning curve at first is kind of steep but definitely doable for a person of even modest intelligence and skill. I speak from experience on that.
