Hello from South Louisiana

I have been reading and looking here for a couple of months. I see there are some really talented folks out there with some great ideas. I bought this 1969 27' Overlander so my would stop fussing about leaving her (LOL) big camper at my deer lease, now I can't get her out of the Airstream. I am doing a lot of reading and have found out this is a great camper and am looking into restoring some things on it. I really got lucky on the shape it is in, I really only had to fix a roof vent and put a couple of o-ring on the water pump. I would really like to get all the running lights, turn signals back in order first off. Well for the time being as I was told to do many years ago; I will take the cotton out of my ears and put in my mouth as I really don't have much to offer yet just a pup at this.
Thanks,
Bruce

Welcome to the forum. Since you've been hanging out here for a while you probably already know there are a number of folks in your area, some which are rebuilding vintage units also.

Good luck and keep us posted with lots of photos!

Thanks to all of you

Gald to be here and thanks again. When I get in (on rig in the Gulf of Mexico) I will post some pics. A lady from Houston, TX owned this camper before I bought it (she must have loved Austin Powers). I have left it as is as far as the inside colors, I have added some lights on the inside to go with colors that were there already.

Rick I was looking at the Zydeco pictures, you just can't imagine how many gallons of sweat have come out of me dancing to those guys. You must come to the Lafayette area pretty often.

not as often as I'd like to!

mostly shot between '85-'99 and strange to see how much of that whole scene is now gone...kaput.

didn't think those shots would be 'historic' quite so soon!

can't wait to see the Swingin' London interior photos..

allo bruno!

if you have never seen some REAL Zydeco music, try to make it to Slim's Y-Ki-Ki Club in Opelousas LA (outside Lafayette) when you are here. I also recommend the Zydeco Breakfast at Cafe Des Amis in Breaux Bridge on most WEdnesdays and Saturdays. great food AND music. see the 'zydeco' section on my website for more pix, and "The Cajun Country Guide" by Fry & Posner is a good book for fun stuff to do when you are here. send me a message or email if you come, mon frere! (wish i spoke more Francais, but my folks didn't teach me very much and I was a lazy kid ;-)

Where are you really from, don't you mean dat your folks didn't "learn" you very much? You know, my wife's maiden name is Gremillion (Grem-me-on), from Baton Rouge.

I'm "really" from White Castle, which is about 25 miles south of Baton Rouge. I used to play golf with some Gremillions (pronounced like your wife's name) from what they call the 'german coast' below Donaldsonville. nice folks...

Fotochop, Overlander & Sea, Brunoffrance; You all sound like you have cut the rug more than once. My wife and I both say that a whole era of music died with Clifton Chennier and Rockin Dopise and the clubs they played around Lafayette. Hate to say it but I guess we are all getting old, we just dance on the back porch these days.

I remember the Keg in Lake Charles and did my first drinking at the Lake Shore Club in Lake Arthur. What was the thing about the Purple Peacock in Opelousas? Did anyone go to the drag races? My Mother is a Vidrine from Ville Platte. I was raised in Welsh and spent a fair amount of time working in the rice fields, that will motivate you.

Aaaa-iiiiieeeeeee!! I remember the Keg in Lake Charles, and worked at Cardi's for a while when they were new. My family moved to Luling (just west of N'awlins) in 1980 and my parents are still there. I lived there, in Lake Chuck, Shreveport and Baton Rouge for about 13 years. I drove all over the southern part of the state doing video depositions for Kleinpeter Productions (yes, the dairy Kleinpeters). You sho' can pass a good time on the buy-o!

Saw some good bands at Tip's in N.O., did some great crabbing on the south side of the Gibbstown Bridge in Cameron Parish (and helped shoot a video at the Cameron Wildlife Refuge), spent many, many hours on the beach in Cameron Parish (and the lakefront in Lake Charles), trapped nutria and set trot lines for catfish in St. Charles Parish, ate strawberries in Ponchatoula, LOVED the Alligator Festival in Luling and the Catfish Festival in Des Allemands, watched the pirates take over the city and throw the mayor in the lake each year in Lake Charles, got sunburned at the mud derby and sand drags near Laplace, saw the bonfires on the levees in St. James ushering in Papa Noel, delivered pizza all over Lake Charles in my Triumph Spitfire, ate the BEST food EVER all over the place (Ralph and Kacoo's, Perkins FatBurger, Mosca's, Brennans, Deanies, Blue Moon Cafe, Les Families, Sal's Seafood, Alligator Hilton, The Chimes, etc.), and rode many miles of River Road on my motorcycle.

The one thing I am SO glad about was I left Lake Charles and then Shreveport just before they put the casinos in. In my opinion that really cheapens the whole area.

South Louisiana is SO rich in cultural heritage--music, food, people, joie de vivre, and more! There is such diversity of things to do there, and the people are delightful! Ah, mon chere, laissez les bon temps roulez!

Susan

We Are New To This Site. We Have A 1975 27" Overlander. We Have Had It For 2 Years. The Inside Is In Fantastic Shape, Considering That It Is 33 Years Old! We Took Out The Carpet The Previous Owner Had Installed. We Put In Hard Wood Flooring. Cream Colored Carpet Just Isn't Pet/kid Friendly. We Have Had To Replace The Sink Faucet, And A Few Other Small Things. We Would Love To Get Our Exterior Redone, We Have Alot Of Oxidation Damage.
We Live Above Baton Rouge, La. My Husband Is Disabled, At An Early Age. We Only Get To Camp When I Can Get Off Of Work, Which Thankfully Has Been Often Lately. We Have Been Staying Mostly In State Parks, Since We Get Camp For 1/2 Price With An America The Beautiful Access (disability) Pass From The National Park Service.
We Are Hoping To Find Support For Any "airstream" Problems We Have. We Broke One Of Our Pyramid Tail Lights And Have Had Problems Finding A Replacement. Vintage Trailer Supply Has A Listing, But Is Out Of Stock. Do You Have Any Suggestions Of Where Else To Look?
Also, We Have What We Are Assuming Is The Original Awning. It Is Not Waterproof. Was It Originally? What Can We Do About It? We Don't Know What We Can Apply That Won't Damage The Fabric.
Could Someone Please Help Us?

hi creel, you're in the right place. get busy with that 'search' feature (above right) and if you don't find it, you can try going to google and typing in your search words followed by 'site:airforums.com' (w/o the quotation marks) and it may work better. you can watch ebay for obscure lights and things. not sure about the awning issue, but a sailmaker might have some info on that. keep in touch..
