Hello from PNW - First RV!

Learned a lot right away like how important having some space without an incline We finally figured out how to turn it around in our driveway with the help of a tractor.
First trip planned in about a month in our new Trade Wind. Looking forward to learning from everyone's experience!

Welcome Entair. Port Angeles is in the middle of some of the most picturesque country in our state. There are lots of places on the warmer east side of the mountains that aren't all that far away either. Enjoy the new trailer.

Welcome from Colorado: We certainly live on an incline, or slope as it were. Pulling an Airstream in the mountains is different than the flatlands. Gotta watch that speed gain going down a long downhill. Lower gears help.

We stayed in Port Angeles during our lovely trip to Olympic National Park. There is a lot to like about the Pacific Northwest, green and lush.

Welcome to the Forums and the world of Airstream ownership!

I purchased my first Airstream nearly 30 years ago, but it wasn't my first RV, actually my second travel trailer and third RV product. An Airstream travel trailer had been my dream from day one, but Argosy had gone out of business a year before I purchased my first travel trailer or I likely would have ordered a Minuet 6.0 Metre as I wanted a new travel trailer in 1980.

I set out to buy a new Airstream in 1995, but was disappointed to learn that Airstream had discontinued my favorite floor plan -- a 25 or 26 foot trailer with a large rear bath and center twin bedroom several years earlier -- and that was the deal breaker. I ended up searching for several months and settled upon a much older Airstream that had been in the hands of two prior caring owners who had used the trailer regularly and carefully kept it in immaculate condition. The Overlander Land Yacht International was 31 years old, and I continue to own and travel in that travel today. I did succumb and purchase a second Airstream product in 2002, a 1978 Argosy Minuet 6.0 Metre as a weekend/short trip trailer from its first owner, but I kept the 1964 Overlander for longer trips where its greater comfort is appreciated.

I am certain that you will enjoy your Airstream whether it is a brand new trailer/motor home, something late model previously owned, or something Vintage. Whatever you choose, I would encourage you to consider joining the Wally Byam Caravan Club Internationa (WBCCI)/Airstream Club International (ACI) as it is an excellent way to get to know nearby Airstream owners through your local Unit as well as a way to encourage regular use of your Airstream through your Unit's regularly scheduled Rallies/camp-outs -- your local unit can be an excellent resource as you get acquainted with your new-to-you Airstream as there is likely a member of the Unit who owns a similar rig -- or in the event of a Vintage rig someone in the Unit will often have owned a similar rig in the past and be able to fill you in on questions about its use and operation.

Good luck with your new Airstream, and Safe Travels!

Kevin

As a post script, be sure to post details about the Airstream that you choose -- everyone here on the forums is curious about your trailer and tow vehicle.

Hi from Lacey! We just purchased a 2019 FC 23cb and will be picking it up in a couple of weeks. Hoping to get up to Dungeness and Salt Creek this year (we have kids in PA) but have other trips planned around the state as well. Have fun with the new camper!

Fidalgo Bay RV Resort

If you want a test camp for a couple of days, we love Fidalgo Bay RV Resort. You could do a shake-out camp there before you hit the road for the first time.

Congrats on your new Trade Wind. I'm sure you will enjoy it very much. And thanks for joining the forum. We learn from each other.

And like Overlander64 mentioned consider joining the Airstream Club (airstreamclub.org). Meeting other AS owners will reduce your learning curve and enhance your ownership.

All the best!

Looks like we have about the same tolerance for distance on our first trip! We have spot booked at Fort Worden in March.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

Another nearby camp is at Fort Flagler. The lower sites have full hookups and some of the sites are awesome - avoid the upper sites, however. Tight turns, trees and hard parking.

These are great!

So many great spots in the PNW to camp and you’ve got a few of them here, Salt Creek, Fort Worden, Fort Flagler, etc. We have reservations at all of them this year! Hope you’ll consider joining the Airstream club. The WA Land Yacht Harbor group is active and is a great community. See you on the road!
