Hello from NH!

"They say things happen for a reason."

We had placed an order for a small Jayco fifth wheel in March and were expecting July or August delivery. Our dealer called two weeks ago and told me Jayco won't make any more of that model until next year sometime. Huge bummer as I've been wanting to get a rig and get retired so we can travel.

We've always loved the look and function of the Airstreams but the high price of even the used trailers kept us away. Last week we traveled to NC to see our new grandson for the first time, and planned a side visit to Knightdale to see a couple of trailers at A to Z Motors that interested us despite the much higher cost than the Jayco. We had a nice visit with Tony but everything we were interested in was under agreement.

Next day we are on the way back to NH and Tony calls. They have something that would fit our wishes. We did a video call from our hotel and agreed to buy a gorgeous 2015 FC 30RBQ. We should have it in a few weeks and we are so exited!

So what changed our minds about the high cost? We could afford this but balked at spending almost twice what the Jayco would have been.

Traveling up I-81 Wednesday into PA we hit a truck tire that had just come off a big truck. Folks in front of us hit it and we had nowhere to go and hit it as well. Not just a little alligator mind you, this was an entire carcass of a tire and they are not small! Scared the you-know-what out of us! No one was hurt, the car took some damage and we made it home to NH the next day.

So we decided that if we were going to do this RV thing we should just get what we have always wanted. Soon we will be Airstream owners and we are so happy about that!

Glad to be alive!

Congrats. Airstreams are pretty special. Once you get on the rode, you will be very pleased.

Welcome from Colorado: Very nicely written introduction. Congratulations on your stroke of good luck with the Airstream purchase. Hey, you saved thousands over cost of new, and your new rig will likely have the bugs worked out of it. I bet you will really enjoy it.

Please use these Airstream Forums to ask any questions you may have after you take delivery. We would suggest you "camp out" for a night or two in the dealer's parking lot and try all the systems out from the air conditioner, on down. There are many things to learn, and your dealer reps can "train you in" so to speak.

Life is good...

David

We’re all glad you got through the tire incident without more grief than what you experienced. One driving technique you will quickly adopt when towing is to leave as much room as possible to react. Yeah, some drivers think you’re a slug and pass, but they always have enough room to drop safely back in, and you still get where you’re going at about the same time.
Regarding your find, I suspect you will love it. We were chatting with a fellow Airstream camper in South Georgia tonight, and his comments were, “tows like a dream!” and “I get much better support than I did with my previous (Jayco) trailer!” Sometimes we enjoy grumbling so much we forget the essential benefits of an Airstream. I know I love not needing to fight the roof flora twice a year!
Happy camping, and happy retirement! See you on the road!

She's here!!

Today there is an Airstream in my driveway!

It's 95 here today and humid as well. I opened windows and turned all the roof fans on and it was actually bearable in the trailer. Can't wait to take my honey camping!!!
