Hello from Michigan!

Hello from Lansing, MI!

My wife and I are the proud new owners of a 1972 Sovereign. We're planning on spending the next year or two doing the full monty on it as its come to us pretty stripped of everything on the inside. We're very much looking forward to getting to know folks on here and learning from everyone's experiences!

Thanks!

Christina

Welcome to the forum!

From the reports of others doing a total restore, be prepared for a marathon with some pain and suffering along the way. If you have a deep wallet, extreme patience, and can persevere through all the adversity, you will come out on the other side in a few years with a nice trailer.

Many on this forum have done the same (some multiple times) who can add invaluable advice, so don't hesitate to ask. And don't forget to document the process with pics of all phases.

Good luck.

Well, today is Sovereign day in the member introductions. Rather unusual.

Greetings from Colorado: Welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby. You have the longest trailer built in 72 at 31'. It is roomy, and is a comfortable long distance travel trailer for sure. I personally like the early seventies trailers better than the late seventies mainly due to having a 3/4" subfloor and less plastic in the cabinets. That said, renovating these old trailers takes maybe 1000 hours of your hard labor. But it is fun.

I have renovated a 75 Overlander 27', and helped a friend renovate their 76 Sovereign 31'. (see photo) I just finished my son's 69 Globe Trotter 21'. Call me crazy and you would be correct.

Start a project thread, or "blog" as some call it, in the Airstream Knowledgebase found near the bottom of the Forums page. Click on Sovereign and then your year range. Folks like me like following along on your project and offering "free advice" that might help you. There are plenty of Sovereign renovation threads posted there. Try reading the "Little Girl" thread as they built an award winning 72 Sovereign. You can learn an awful lot about your project by reading what others had to do.

David
