Hello from Madera CA! (And a bit of excitement this Wednesday night)

Hello everyone!

My name is Nathan and my wife and I just purchased our first airstream, a 1999 Cutter diesel 35 foot motor home. We have four small children and we are veteran RV vacationers. We traded in our small trailer for the motor home soon after our 4th was born, just not enough room in the trailer! I'm still learning a lot about this big vehicle and also spending a lot of time researching safe driving techniques, since I have never driven something this big. I've learned a ton already mostly thanks to this great community.

Anyway, on to the excitement! I was sitting peacefully in my home office catching up on emails when I heard a massive crash from the side yard area. We had just, not 12 hours earlier, parked our new rig on that side of the house, adjacent to the property line marked by a massive row of eucalyptus trees! Mind you, we have lived here for years and never had a problem. Sure enough, I shine the flashlight over there and see leaves surrounding the ground in front of our new (to us) rig . I frantically ran down and inspected, and to my utter amazement, the branch missed the front wind screen by about 12 inches. Phew! I retrieved my trusty electric chainsaw and (at 11:30 at night) started cutting up the offending branch. Once the path was opened I moved the motor home clear to the other side of the property, where there are no trees! It's not even windy out tonight!

Anyway, great board you all have here. I'm sure I'll be posting a lot and hopefully one day I'll be able to contribute to the knowledge base.
