Arrow Hello from Glasgow

Hi folks. I'm in the middle of buying a 1974 Sovereign and my first step is to find a suitable place to keep it when it gets to Glasgow, Scotland. I'm going to do a full restoration/ refit and ideally need an indoor space within, say, a thirty mile radius of Glasgow. So far I've been emailing agent's who rent industrial units (seems expensive) and caravan storage places. Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Thanks

I second Aage's suggestion about using a barn. I'd approach a local farmer in the area and ask if there might be space in his/her barn(s) to store your Airstream. If at first you don't succeed, try try again. I'd bet you will find what you are looking for.

Welcome to the Forums. Please post updates as your project moves along.

Thanks. I appreciate the replies (and the witty Scottish references....acht). Good idea on the barn, I'll go in search of farmers this week. [no cow smiley?]

A Sovereign is quite a big rig for the UK. I almost got one, but opted for an Overlander which is a better bet for our roads. Having driven around Scotland quite a bit - off the beat and track - I'd suggest something smaller.

As for the work - I am in awe of you, a great task which I would love to do over here.

Thanks Yomster. I understand your concerns. I was going to go for a 23 footer but decided that I won't be touring with this, so the extra room will be useful as a static parked on some land abroad hopefully. I may not personally take it on the road even (just get a company to tow it to it's final location). This will be my new permanent home hopefully, so a complete change of lifestyle too.

As for the refit, well, that remains to be seen. I haven't tackled one before so have a tonne to learn. But I plan on taking it slow and doing it right. I want to simplify all of the systems to be as off-grid friendly and low-tech as possible (with some higher-tech things to make life easier probably).
