Exclamation Hello from Colorado--3 Airstreams

Great Airstream site!

I have 3--18' 1971, 27' 1972, and 31' 1975. The first two have been gutted, except for the baths and all new cabinetry installed. Cutting the tub in half in the 27' and making it into a waterproof shower was a nutty first step, but it provided an additional 1-1/2' of conterspace in the kitchen, so in the end was worth it. Photos later.

I use my Airstreams for extended photography trips and to live in when I foolishly take jobs out of state. The last such was 3 years in Vegas.

When I'm not busy in the wood shop, I spend my time working on digital maps, which I use both for hiking and for moving map display while driving. If anyone is interested in using their laptop to provide moving map navigation, I use Oziexplorer, an excellent shareware program with all the features I've needed for utilizing raster maps, including the USGS topo maps. I can provide maps for the entire country and detailed maps down to the Quad level for all of the western states. Let me know.

Welcome to the Forum

So, when it's time to travel, do you make the decision by:

1 - Length of the trip determines the length of the trailer?
2 - Which one is already stocked? or
3 - Spin the wheel of fortune and see which one the pointer stops on?!?

We'll be watching for the pictures.

Your mapping program sounds fascinating.

Gosh, sounds like you have a wonderful life. Wish I had any idea what you're talking about. The last words I unerstood were the discriptions of the airstreams you have. You are a lucky man to be able to spend your time renovating these classic American coaches. I just came in from putting another coat of paint on the toilet and pedestal in my 78 Argosy. Isn't it odd what we look forward to on our week-ends. Only an Airstream person would understand how much satisfaction we get out of painting a toilet in a 28 year old trailer.

I also envy you. I am interested in what you said about moving maps. I have a Garmin Street Pilot and have used numerous programs to program trips. I would like to get something more accurate in way of a navigation program. I will check out the one you mentioned and wonder where you got the USGS data. I haven't been able to find it.
