WELL....... THIS IS IT. I SOLD MY HOUSE AND WILL BE OUT SOMETIME IN DECEMBER.LIFE IN NEW YORK (LONG ISLAND) HAS BECOME A SELF ABSORBED GREEDY DEAD ZONE. AND AT MY AGE (45) LIFE IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT THEN MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. SO LAST WEEK I FOUND A 1988 29FT AIRSTREAM . MAYBE ITS A LITTLE BIG FOR WHAT I NEED (JUST ME AND 2 DOGS). BUT, IT SEEMS TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE AND NOW I HAVE SOMEPLACE TO HANG MY HAT AT THE END OF THE DAY. MY NEXT STEP, GETTING THE TRUCK. A 2007 E-350 WITH THE 6.0 DIESEL ENGINE (IF ANYONE HAS A POINTER ON THIS I WOULD LOVE IT). I PLAN ON JUST MOVE AROUND FOR THE 1ST YEAR. FOR THE FOLKS WHO JUST WALKED AWAY AND NOT HAVE A HOME TO COME BACK TO. DON'T YOU FEEL LOST IN ANY WAY?. HOW DO YOU CUT LOSE? . I MEAN WE ALL GREW UP IN SOME KIND OF A HOUSE. AND NOW ITS GONE. ITS THE BIGGEST LOSS IN ONES LIFE. HOW DO YOU KEEP ROOTED.
WELL ANYWAY, NEXT MONTH I HIT THE ROAD AND MAYBE I WILL SEE SOME OF YOU FOLKS SOON. BE SAFE ON THE ROAD AND GOODBYE

Welcome and I wish you good luck and happy travels. On a recent trip we met two gentlemen who did as you are planning, left the rat race of money, money, money and opened as small cafe in a little Mississippi River town. See my article in December's Forum news letter.

TIMETOGO - For whatever reason you have for hitting the road, I hope you find what you want in life there. It's not easy making a "life change" like this so I hope that everything out there is full of new adventures. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing from time-to-time. I'll keep an eye out for a nice '07 PSD van......you'd probably be just as well off in a 3/4 ton... It would be a little easier in the Airstream...and on your back.

What did I lose? Possessions that owned ME, not the other way around. I no longer have a huge house that was eating me alive in maintenance and utilities, no longer do I spend 2 hours every night cleaning but still losing ground, no longer do I have 30 boxes of clothing I hadn't worn for years.

Loss? Not really.

Put the money from the sale of your house into a good safe investment; get a laptop with a good wireless airtime connection, get a decent cell phone and work from home - if you want to - when you want to.

Or do some work camping, and some free lancing. Put as much of the profits from your house as you can into secure investments. If you want to opt back into a more conventional lifestyle later, it's a lot easier with some seed money.

I thought of semi-retiring but my business started getting busier and busier. I really enjoy running our a local telephone answering service - I do love my job, and many of the clients are friends. For me work itself wasn't the problem, it was trying to maintain a suburban lifestyle we are all supposed to want....... but I was just wearing me down. I'm like Scarlett O'hara in Gone With the Wind... as god is my witness, I'll never mow a lawn again... or trim 100 feet of hedge, or paint a fence, or paint five bedrooms, or spend 3 days putting in a closet rack system...

Think of your journey as a one or two year experiment. If you change your mind and decide to find a new career at some point, that is NOT a failure... it's another choice. Congratulations on choosing a path less taken. Enjoy the trip!

Where you going first?

As far as the 2007 E-350 WITH THE 6.0 DIESEL ENGINE

It is a stiff ride and vans even 350's have more sway than pickups.

Secondly the 6.0 are nick named sick-O's, the '07 have the bugs worked out but they are no longer made after only 3 years?

I just sold my E450 with a 7.3 last week, great truck but after taking over twenty trips to the Fl Keys decided to get a pickup.

I would have got a Ford 250 if they still made the 7.3 but not with the 6.0.

I'm picking up my GMC '07 the end of this week it has a 8.1, don't need the big engine it to tow the 6.0 gas would be fine, I also use it to haul 2500-3000 lbs of cargo from time to time.

This Is The Frist 2 Months Typing And On A Computer.its Nice To See People Still Reach Out To Help A Unknown.as For The 1st Stop.. The South. I Am A Carpenter By Trade And I See Lots Of People Lost It All In The Past Year Due To Storms.i Grow Up Poor, And We All Learned To Help Each Ohter In Times Of Need.a Place For My As And A Hot Meal And You Got A Good Days Work Out Of Me.
