Hedonistic Bohemian goes aluminum!
As I write this my trusted family is inspecting my new 2007 Airstream 27FB SE/LS. They've been at it for 90 minutes, and can't find anything wrong. They say it appears to have hardly been used!
They've looked and poked and cranked and opened and closed and run water and lit flames and shined lights and all those things the dry-camper does. They've got logistical issues reaching AC & water, and may or not be able to. I expect this will go forward in another hour or two.
They're in Houston, will pull it to Waco Monday, and I won't see it for 5 long weeks. I'm in Atlanta, and it isn't clear how we will get it here, but we will manage. It looks like I'm in the market for a pickup truck.
But, the Airstream isn't a member of this forum - I am! So I would like to introduce myself. Just the basics - hedonistic bohemian.
From Wikipedia on hedonistic: "The basic idea behind hedonistic thought is that pleasure is the only thing that is good for a person; indeed: the only good."
From Wikipedia on bohemianism: "Bohemians were associated with unorthodox or antiestablishment political or social viewpoints, which were often expressed through non-marital sexual relations, frugality, and/or voluntary poverty."
Actually I'm not in a committed relationship with those concepts, but it rings true with me and, if not the way I've lived my life, perhaps it's been a general direction.
I'm not in any committed relationship now and I intend to take the convergence of the loss of a committed relationship, daughters going off to college, and job loss becomes early retirement as an excuse to be more hedonistic and more bohemian. More self determination, less responsibility, more free time. I promise I will use my power for good.
I still have this house in Atlanta to sell so I won't be full-timing for a while. But that's the dream.
I previously posted here as cbgenrich, but as the weeks went on and it became clear Airstream was my path I decided to take on a more descriptive moniker. I have spent the last 25 years in computer engineering, mostly software development with a lot of networking and network security lately. That has served me well and I enjoy it, and will not likely be giving it up - just no more working for the man.
I hope to meet up with many of you at rallies rallies and campgrounds. Feel free to knock on my door - I'll be expecting you.
-CB-
P.S. - When we meet, mention this introduction for free unlimited computer support. Told you I would use my power for good!

Absinthe? My neighbor is the only distributor in North America licensed to bring Absinthe to the US. I just tried this a few months ago. The special spoons.. sugar cubes with water drizzled over them.. and now worm wood free... so you wont go crazy?
Sorry to jump in..

Bohemian:
Welcome to the forums. 2007 sounds like a nice trailer. Mine is a 1973. There are several people who are members of this forum from the Atlanta area. I think you will enjoy the forum and make sure you meet some of the people.
Those who drink Absinthe becareful. Absinthe is made from a plant called worm wood. Worm wood means Vermouth in German. Van Gough drank the stuff and it made him crazy. Absinthe is a poison and should not be used all the time. I tcan cause you to hallucinate and can make you sick. It also is known for making you get really wild and crazy.
It is illegal in this country and if I am correct only a few European countries still sell it. It is a green milky looking drink.

All I have so far are from the Internet posting, but this one's not too bad. I'll try to get my sister to take some with a Texas sunset, rather than this high-tech look. Maybe borrow a cow or two from a neighbor for the shot.
There was an issue testing the air conditioner, which we hope is just related to the extension cords needed to get power to the trailer. Saturday morning they're going to take it to a nearby campground that has agreed to let them use their connections. Good sister and brother-in-law to do all this for me, don't you think?

CB welcome to the forums and welcome to a new way of life. Be bohemian and be proud...
Absinthe did not make Van Gough crazy, a mental imbalance did that. He wasn't drinking absinthe while he was locked up in the assylum, he was eating his paint then. I doubt that contained worm wood or it's active ingredient thujone.
Michael, do you put wormwood in your paints or wormwood in your glass?

Another man's poison. . .
Hey, CB,
Welcome to the forums and the wonderful world of aluminum!
For a lot of good information on absinthe, see Modern Drunkard Magazine!

And in any case, you don't have to be crazy to be an Airstreamer. . . but it helps. . .
Cheers,
Nuvi

Welcome to the forum
Congrats on your new trailer. I would be anxious as could be waiting 5 weeks to see it. Anyway, I am Bohemian, and I think that you picked out a great Airstream Forum moniker for yourself. The economic climate is pushing me into early retirement as well. Well, semi retirement anyway.
You have reminded me to keep a positive attitude. And I thank you for that. So to you I say, enjoy the journey, the destination will wait. Go collect some friends and memories.

Congratulations! Your trailer looks gorgeous!
Here is a great article on bohedonism. Thought you might like it. ( globeandmail.com: Appetite for excess). We can totally relate!
We caught aluminum fever last spring and let it ravage us too. Sadly, we have 25 years till we can go full-timing. We'll try to shave off a few of those years. Even sadder, spring is a long way off even though it is March. It's -4F today and the snow is 3 feet deep. That's life in the Great White North.
Enjoy your trailer! Happy trails!
