Has anyone gone from fiberglass trailer to Airstream?

We sold our fiberglass Casita and I became a super-fan of fiberglass shell construction over stick builds. But now that I'm researching our next trailer, I've always admired Airstreams. Anyone made the jump and how do you like the Airstream experience over a "white egg" trailer?

Good morning Zimm!

Yep, we made the jump from our Casita 17SD several years ago and couldn't be happier. We were very active on the Casita forum (username: Rob and Linda) and, because of extensive "mods" our Casita was pretty well known, very functional, and "pretty" ... but as good as it was, it was not even close to our Airstream 23D.

If you would like to talk about our experience, I'll be happy to send you our phone number by private message.

Rob

Hey Rob! I'm The Handy Camper on the Casita forum. Since I have (had) a business fixing up Casitas, I'm a little hesitant to ask in the Casita crowd how Airstreams are. But since we don't have an RV right now, we could buy anything.

I'm really liking the 30FB bunk trailer. Dry bath and walk around bed which are my wife's requirements. Bunks for the kids. The bottom bunk is extra wide so the dog can share that too!

The fiberglass people poo-poo on airstreams because they can dent in a hail storm. Well, so can airplanes. I'm not too worried about it.

Our first 19 ft Bambi was a move from a 17ft Bigfoot.
After owning a Bigfoot, the only move was to the Airstream because of large windows.
Never looked back and now own our last Airstream, a 25 FB International.

We started with a 13 foot Scamp deluxe (very nice maple cabinets) with a front dinette. It was a cozy fiberglass tent with furnace, cooktop, and fridge (no bath). We loved it. It served us well for many years as a weekender and week-long vacation rig.

We wanted a much bigger, fully contained trailer for life after retirement, with long-stay adventures of up to five months. That lead us to our 25FB which has served us well for ten years now. We kept the Scamp for a while after getting the AS, because going up to the mountains in it is a much different experience. It's camping whereas the Airstream is living in a tiny house with big windows. We did sell the Scamp after two or three years because we were spending as much time on maintenance as we spent using it.
