Happy Airstream Owner!! '67 Overlander
Hi Everyone, Just dropping in to introduce ourselves. We just became the proud owners of a 67 Overlander on New Years Eve! Instead of watching the ball drop, hubby, son, son's girlfriend and I gave each over high fives at midnight as we were rolling down the interstate with our "Lucy Baby" in tow! We had a two hour drive to have a look at her and decided that she must go home with us! We drove her home with no trailer brakes, tires that were more than questionable, (one was flat the next morning) got pulled over by a state trooper because our running lights quit working and sang the Gornicky's song (RV)...."I've got a never ending love for you...... LOL!!! Gotta love an adventure. The Overlander is probably about as perfect as it could be on the inside. The floors are completely solid, no frame rust, all cabinets, latches and appliances are intact. The front gaucho has been replaced with one from a newer model and there is no table, minor issues to say the least. I am anxious to pick out some cool retro fabric and will sew new curtains and a gaucho covering. The exterior street side is perfect, but the curb side has some damage on two of the front panels, right at the contour....not a good place, but could be worse. Being the DIY people that we are, 48 hrs. later the inside panel is down for better access to the aluminum and we have about six hours of time in dent repair. We know that it will not be perfect as we had some pretty serious dents and several creases, but we are pleasantly surprised at how she is coming along. The upper panel damage is barely noticebale and we are still working on the lower one. The Overlander also has a crease in the door and down the lower panel on the same side, but we're thinking that it won't be that noticeable once we get it polished. And, who knows we may end up at some point having that professionally repaired. Our 19 year old son just finished a 73 Argosy, his user name is Argosy73 if you care to see his project. It is pretty amazing...yes, I'm a proud Mom, but credit is due as he and his girlfriend (both 19 years old) tackled this project and didn't quit until it was done! Well, that's our intro, thank you for reading. We look forward to being part of the community. The forums have been so helpful with our son's project and now we will be looking for helpful tips on our restoration. In fact, I need one drawer front for under the twin beds. Any suggestions?
