Greetings from Big Dawg

Hello Fellow Airstreamers.

I've been waiting for 2 years to say that. I am happy to announce that I have just purchased a 26' 1962 overlander.I am going to renovate it into an art studio(live in of course). For any of you college football fans out there, I'm a Georgia Bulldog fan and the theme of the Airstream will scream Dawgs.Since it will travel I've already named her "DAWGONE".

I'll need to do some plumbing work but all the electrical, floor, etc. has already been done. It needs new tires. The rest of it will be my artistic touches and custom cabinets including a retractable drafting table.

I can't wait to dig in.

Where can I find an awning for it.

Dave

Hey Big Dawg

You share a nickname with my husband who is also a big dog. His name is Jeff and his license reads "BGDGJEF". We have a '67 and are plugging away.

Got pictures of your trailer?

I can't imagine how you'll do a drafting table, perhaps something on a scissor hinge that can lie flat up against the wall and pull out from the bottom. Finding a length of wall that suitable will be tough--windows and fridge seem to happen way too often along the sides...

But welcome! I had a complete office--printer, scanner, computer, stereo, books, legal size drawer, etc. along the wall opposite the double bed. It used to be two twins, but that got taken care of right off the bat.

Both Zip-Dee (OEM on new A/S) and Carefree of Colorado make shaped arms for the Airstreams. If your unit has a top awning rail already the process will be very simple. If not, just a little more complicated but very do-able!

I would suggest going with the acrylic (Sunbrella) fabric. It is more expensive but looks like cloth and wears great.

PM me if you need any guidance. I'm a dealer for both companies.

Hey Big Dawg,
Welcome to the forums. I'm so glad to see you are a Georgia Bulldog, I was real worried it was Mississippi State. We are die hard Ole Miss Rebels.
A lot of good advice here just ask and folks will be glad to help.

Welcome Dave,
I sold a '77 Excella 500 31' not long ago and it had Zip Dee awnings on the curb side and a narrower one on the street side. It even had one off the rear bath window. They are really good awnings. I'd check Inland RV for a price on the appropriate size awnings then keep my eyes open for when they might go on sale. They are not cheap. You might also check Colaw's Salvage (check the vendor list) for a rig that might come in damaged but has good awnings.
