Greetings........

What a rush. After spending a year living in our 2005, $65K Holiday Rambler Presidential fifth wheel, then storing it (and of course still paying for it) for a year. We sold it. Came home and cried until we got just one more bright idea.......an old airstream to fix up.

So here we are, proud new parents of a 1978 Sovereign ($3700).

Comes home tomorrow and will undergo what we hope to be a very personal transformation. Final destination - - - San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, somewhere near the bach, our new 'Maragitaville'.

Ken I just had to smile as I read your initial post.

As far as posting photos - after you click the "post reply" button, type in any response you are going to make. Then scroll down until you see "manage attachments" and click. Browse, double click the photo you want, then click upload. close that window and hit "submit reply".
One note, you may have to resize the photo smaller, sorry I don't recall the max size. Something like 800 X 600. ??
Good luck,
Dave

Nothing WEIRD about being excited. Welcome to the Forum. Happy restoring. Is there "a lot" you need to do? We will be taking our first trip this weekend.

All on the Forum helped us with our repair journey. Enjoy. Aria

Hi and welcome to the forums. We have a 74 Soverign which we are in the process of restoring to live in full time.

There is a wealth of information on the forums to help you and guide in the restoration. Good luck and hope to meet you on the road.

We got one!!!!

Whenever someone buys an Airstream and posts as new, and excited, I want to ring a bell and shout "We got oooooone!!!" like the gal in Ghostbusters.

Welcome to the club, it's not unusual to lose sleep in excitement. There's a name for what you have...Aluminum Fever, Aluminitis, Riveting Symptoms, the list goes on. There's no cure, nor should there be one...

We will nag for pictures so keep them coming...

The adventure begins!

She's home.........

Got home late last night after a long, hot day in Phoenix - 115 degrees - waiting for new tires and a wheel bearing pack. Got home and couldnt get her to clear the dip at the curb and going up into the driveway, so we left her on the street. Got up this morning and found some 2x6x12's and bridged her in .

Plugged her in and lo and behold, we had AC , fridge came on , and lights here and there. A quick run to Walmart for cleaning supplies and light bulbs and we spent a day inside cleaning some areas and making plans for others.

Gotta figure out how to get the tint out from between the dual pane windows and we'll replace furniture with something more modern and flexible. 'Bamboo' laminate for the floors (gotta replace a spot by the door) and probably remove the cabinet and stereo in the front end. Also, it's got one tight bed, so we'll take out cabinets/closets on passenger side and add a second bed.

We'll keep era components, like the 8track and stereo, for nostalgia's sake, and upgrade other areas. Will need to convert the LP tanks to newer valves before I can check hot water heater and oven, but hopeful.

Any help with windows would be appreciated.

Movin on...............

Inside is about done. Need to work on the toilet........seems it leaks. Out and back in several times now, but she still leaks. Of course, ya can't hook up the water and see what I need to see all at the same time, so it's trial and error. I'm thinking now there is a seam between the seat and bowl, so that when you flush, rushing water leaks out high above the inside rim. Haven't gotten it back out yet - seems someone expects me to be in the office regularly.

Anyone think I'm anywhere near close on this guess?

Next step: rig a fitting for the garden hose so I can flush in the back yard.....

Wow, you made some progress.
Good to hear from you!

Sounds like the hose connection from the flush valve to the inside rim of the toilet.
If it's like my Thetford Galaxy, there are only 3 nuts holding the thing down and it is not hard to remove the thing.

To reinstall, you would need a new seal between the floor flange of the toilet.(a few bucks)

Keep flushing,

Michael

PS, Fotos PLEASE!
