Greeting from Grand Rapids

Hello,
I am new here...

Just starting demo on a '76 Sovereign '31 and doing planning for the other stages currently (during naptime!). We're planning on making this capable of boondocking for up to two weeks at a time. We've got a large solar system in the works and are looking at doing all things efficient and cost effective, yet not scrimping on needs.

See you around!

Welcome to the vintage Airstream hobby from a fellow enthusiasts here in Colorado. Your introduction brings back many memories. I spent the entire winter of 2020 under and inside a 76 Sovereign 31'. It belongs to a friend of mine and we renovated the thing together. The trailer had all the classic problems of the 70s trailers, but they are all repairable and a guy can build a very comfortable travel trailer.

You can read all about big solar systems here on these forums. I'm not a boondocker much, but many people enjoy it. The back country roads here in Colorado are usually in very rough shape, like 4wd recommended.

Find the forums Knowledgebase near the bottom of the Forums page and then click on Sovereign. Maybe you'll find our 76 Sovereign Renovation thread and see all the fun and pain we had. There Forums participants are very helpful in answering questions and giving good advice. Here are a couple of photos of my friend's 76 Sovereign out camping in Colorado.

Welcome and best wishes with your project. You should learn a lot, get great satisfaction and have some fun. We have completed a ‘76 Trade Wind 25’ rebuild—feel free to ask questions and input from those on here with experience. If you haven’t already done so, I suggest introducing yourself to the service manager at Woodland Airstream. Erich is a great guy with lots of knowledge and information—I had him solve some of the more puzzling challenges for me and his team did them quite well.

Welcome! Sounds like you have a fun project on your hands.

Just curious as to where in GR you live? I ask because we lived in Caledonia for a few years. We loved that part of MI!

Ahhh, Grand Rapids! I spent 3 years there going to nursing school at Butterworth Hospital School of Nursing (long gone). Hubby and I are from Grand Haven and Spring Lake respectively. We' ve been Minnesotans for many years now, but Michigan is still "home"...
Welcome to the Forums!
