Great Tool

Hello- I'm new to the forum and have just got our first airstream. It needs a lot of work - but could not be more excitied about the task ahead. This forum is by far the best tool that anyone can have for the restoration or just general info. Out of all the tools I own didn't think that the laptop would be the most used. I hope that I can stop reading long enough to get started. I have two eager helpers aged 11 & 12 that have already been bitten by the aluminum bug. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Michael:

Welcome to the Forums!

If you haven't picked up on it yet, a lot of us here request pictures - a lot of them, from each project.

What a great project to involve the family as a work team and a great way to teach the kids some independent thinking and instill a bit of common sense and pride in workmanship.

The "search" function in the upper right pull down will soon become your best friend. Many have found the "advanced search" or the "google search" to be more beneficial...well, to be honest, the simple "search" function really sucks - go advanced or google from the start.

There are many threads detailing rebuild, repair, and restoration - take your time to decide in advance just how will your attack your renovations, an hour or so researching a project here will save many in trying to figure out just how it "is supposed to be done". No sense in reinventing the wheel. I would venture to guess just about any question about 70's Sovereigns has been addressed SOMEWHERE here in the Forums.

Got started today. Stopped on the way out of our neighborhood and met a neighbor that had lived down the road for several years and had never met him. Has an AS in the yard so stopped and introduced myself. Cool how this airstream thing works.

On to the work. Just washed the outside to remove the grime and started removing the gaucho and some other old parts. Planning a shell on floor replacement. I'm also attaching some photos of how we found it and after the first few hours of work. Also removed a large dent from streetside front - worked great. Hope the pictures come thru.
