grandpas airstream in LI, NY

hi everyone. I have a 1972 airstream (I believe it's a Sov) It was left to me by my grandfather & I've always had intentions to fix it up & bring my family out with it one day. I had dreams of renovating the insides with black/white checkered tile, red sparkly plastic seats... retro diner if you will. I know a lot of you are probably cringing right now! People like to keep them original right? I'm just not into the green & brown combo! But anyway, I have 4 small children & no time or money right now to put into it. I would love to, but just don't. It's been sitting around for 4 years & it's in disrepair. I have a dilemma, do i wait and let it sit in my driveway annoying my neighbors for the next 4 years, or sell it? I wish I knew of someone who loved it as much as I do, that would fix it up, get good use of it & let me visit it sometimes.. maybe take it out to a local park w/ my family one day any long islanders out there????

As far as keeping it original, my opinion is, its you trailer make the way you want. It can be a work in progress and use it as you fix it. Being that it has so much sentimental value I would recommend keeping it. It does not cost anything to just sit there. I feel that you would never forgive yourself for getting rid of it for the couple grand that you would get.

Good luck with your decision....dont sell

Do what you can to prevent it from leaking and causing more damage to the interior. Try to keep it decent looking on the outside, maybe it will keep the neighbors off of your back.
If you do decide to sell it, do some research to find what it would be worth. Be carefull not to get ripped off.

thanks for the replies! It isn't leaking anywhere which is good, but it's pretty smelly & I think perhaps there have been mice at some point. It does need cushions & the fridge is stuck shut. there are a few dents and scrapes on one side as well, & it's so big that I know the neighbors hate me for keeping it in the yard I'm sure it needs new tires too, so It would take some work to get it out... living on li we don't have the extra $ for life's luxuries, especially w/ little ones.
