Good day!

Greetings from the great North Pacific in Canada!

I am a new Airstream owner and long-time adoring fan of the classic Airstream trailers.

I have purchased a completely renovated 1972 Airstream Overlander 27' here in BC. Basically everything is newly replaced and it has a very robust solar system for off-grid living. I am placing the trailer on my property for short term renters and friends and family visitors to stay in!

I have one repair (entry door handle assembly replacement) to make which I will post separately about in the appropriate section, once I learn how to navigate my way around this forum.

I am looking forward to this learning journey and appreciate all of your guidance and support in advance!

Best to everyone!
Marci from BC

Welcome from central Florida

Welcome to the Air Forums.
My first Airstream was an early 1970s. Good memories!
Enjoy!

Good going Marci from BC. More members seem to read messages on the weekend, so hopefully you can get some help. I sent you another PM with some names and numbers you can check come Monday. Good luck

Thank you, Bubba! I saw your reply and am going to follow up with those leads. I appreciate your help!
I'm now researching best way to deal with septic. My trailer will, for the most part, but stationary acting as a separate accommodation at our rural property. I have septic and am trying to figure out the best, cost effective method of dealing with septic waste from the trailer on my property. I could tie into existing septic (there are questions about where lines run, but we can find them), building a separate smaller septic bed (big $), or a composting toilet which I haven't researched enough to have an opinion about yet. I will find the threads for these questions and hope to get some guidance!
Thanks again for your quick response.
Take care, Bubba!

Welcome aboard!

For a simple way of dealing with septic, look at the Sewer Solution. With a few lengths of PVC or vinyl hose, you can macerate the waste and pump it to your existing system.

I’m bumping this to see if anyone has any experience with the KT lockset on a 72 Overlander. dbj216 may have an idea. Just trying to help Marci out. Thanks

Welcome to these Airstream forums from Colorado. I don't know any TreeMoonGirls here, but I don't get out much. I have a 75 Overlander 27 which I renovated. I think the Overlander is a nice sized travel trailer with decent beds, bath, galley, and living area.

You have the infamous KT lock I bet. Caution, it can lock you out, or lock you in depending on what part fails. My trailer had one too but I fitted a modern Korhee RV lock to the trailer. It works good and I believe will last a long time. There are folks on these Forums who overhaul the KT locks for folks and may be able to help you.

One consideration with winter use of your Overlander is freezing plumbing. Your trailer likely doesn't have a wash water storage tank, and the black tank may not be heated real well. Getting water into the trailer and draining it out is a challenge in below freezing temps. Maybe you won't use the trailer as a guest house during the winter months. If you do, there are many things to consider. You can read up on what to do here in these Forums. Search, search, search.

Here are a couple few photos of my Overlander, including my new Korhee lock. We would like to see yours when you get a chance. Year 72 was a good Overlander year. Enjoy your vintage Overlander. I'll help where I can.

Thank you!

I’m very grateful for all of your helpful responses!
Here are a few pics of my Overlander interior. I haven’t even seen it yet! I love in a remote location, so had someone check it out for me, they told me if I wasn’t buying the trailer they would. It is (apparently) beautiful!
I am still figuring out septic.
All plumbing copper pipes were replaced with pex to decrease chance of freezing in winter. Winters here are normally not very cold, but there can be cold snaps. I probably won’t have guests in there in the winter, but you never know!
Looking forward to my Airstream learning journey!
Take care everyone!
Marci

It seems I can't post the file format I have, so will share pictures of my Overlander as soon as I have some in jpg format.

Pics in proper format

Here are some pics of my renovated Outlander.
I haven't even seen it yet! I had a trusted person check it out for me before I bought it - he said he was going to buy it if I wasn't.
I have an entry door handle to replace for which I've already received lots of help with - thank you Bubba and montanablue!
I am figuring out septic for when it's parked on my property and being rented.
Curious as to whether I should be concerned about the water tank since it is the original. I'm guessing don't drink the water unfiltered and maybe only use unfiltered for dishes and toilet.
Thank you again for all the great advice so far. It is appreciated.

Wow, that is one nice renovated Overlander. The bath is completely redesigned and rebuilt, much better than mine which as the original bath. Yours is a double bed model which offers more storage than the twin bed model like mine. Pex is what I used in my Overlander. Maybe the seller has described if the axles and shocks have been replaced, insured the frame was good, and if they installed new waste water tanks. I can't tell from the photo if the KT lock has been replaced or not.
