First Try

I'm new to this web site, and am trying to learn to nevigate. I think I could back a trailer for half a mile easier than find what i want here.

I've had my second trailer for 6 years now and the headliner is coming loose. The trailer has been at a local RV repair shop for three weeks and I have not even gotten an estimate on getting it guled back up yet. I want to use it soon. Is there any suggestions about what can be done with the original glued job?

My wife and I have attended only two international rallys. Louisville in 1976 and Springfield in 2005. Had to cancel Salem because of a move from Nashville to Georgia. If anyone has suggestions about getting about on this web site let me know. If you have any information about falling head liners I would appreciate that too.

On the blue bar about an inch and a half below the top of the window there is a button labelled Search. Click on that, it should drop down a box for you to type your query.
Type "falling headliner" , without the quotes, and hit go.

That brings up about a dozen threads. Click on one and it will open that thread in a new window.

Or you can narrow down your search and get fewer threads to search.

That's always a good way to start.

Like so many things, it's easy once you know how.

Welcome to the Forums my local friend. I am sorry you are having problems finding your way around this site. It took me a little while, too.

One of the best tools is the search feature. It is located in the upper right area on the dark blue bar. Enter your topic: falling ceiling, sagging interior skins, etc. and you should get a list of threads that would pertain to your situation.

I don't know who you have left your trailer with, but I might suggest that you retrieve it and take it to MidTNN Airstream. They seem to have their act together. It isn't close, but you probably have dealt with them before. I have found that there really isn't a good Airstream service center in metro Atlanta. I haven't used the one down south on I-75, but they are not an Airstream specialist and haven't heard good things from others that have used them. They are about 30 minutes from my house and I bought my Airstream from an out of state dealer. I don't think there is anyone else in the Metro area that services Airstreams. There may be and I just don't know about them. You could also call JC and ask. They won't recommend but they will tell you who is in the area.

As far as getting around the rest of the forum, the tab marked forums leads you to the different categories to which you would start a thread. This is where you started this thread. Or you could look for other threads about your topic. But this would be time consuming. If you click on the Forums tab and scroll down to the second category (Airstream Restoration, Repair & Parts Forums), there is a sub category on Ribs, Skins and Rivits. Interior skins are discussed here.

You can also go to the Portal tab where you will find the most recent post. These are the two that I use the most. Then you can click on the person's i.d. in their post to send them a private message, an e-mail, see their photos, etc. Try some of these out to get a feel for some of the features of this forum. I only post to one other forum (Disney, see my forum name and signature line and you'll know why) and it is very different in layout.

Hope this helps. Tom

Martin, several of us on the forum have had the same falling headliner, usually in the front living area and in the rear bedroom. Mine had gone so far as to completely separate from the vinyl strip that holds the edges. If you do the search as described above, you'll find several different solutions, ranging from the extreme of taking it back to Jackson, OH, for a redo to the tune of several thousands of dollars to more reasonable self-done solutions. We followed the lead of another forum member who posted directions and pictures for reattaching the headliner with 5/8th inch screws covered with button covers to give a custom quilted look to the ceiling. We've just completed ours, and I love the look. Do the search, and I'll bet you will choose to do something similar! Best wishes in solving this to your satisfaction ~G

I can't help with either the navigation of the headliner - good opener? But you can may benefit from a get-together a bunch of us in the local (GA/TN) area are doing October 20-22 in Hiawassee, GA.

At the risk of being insensitive to your original request for help, do a search for "Georgia Leaf Thing" or something to that effect. There must be 15-20 AS's signed up for this get-together, and I'll bet you could get some decent tips there!

Hi, Martin,

Welcome from another Georgian. I can't help with the headliner problem. I just looked, and my old '79's good old vinyl clad aluminum metal strip is still up there.

I usually enter the website here:

http://airstreamforums.com/

and click the "New Posts" button before the pictures finish loading, at least when I'm using the wireless card, which is all I have right now.

The forum search, as the others have mentioned, is a great tool.

Sometimes you may want to go browsing, however. Then click the top link in the left-hand menu: Forum Listings. There you'll find all the topics broken down into different sections.

This is also, perhaps, the net's largest repository of Airstream photographs. You have a duty to add pix of your's in your gallery. We LOVE pictures here.

Don't worry about showing your Airstream's underwear. We post the bad and the good, as it rains on the sinners and the saints.
