Hello - My name is Kim and am I ever glad to find you guys. Thank you for maintaining such a wonderful resource. After gaining lots of experience restoring older homes, my husband and I are about to try our hand at fixing an airstream. We recently purchased a 1986 34' camper that has jacknifed and has some damage to the right front body panels and window. Are there places that deal in used Airstream parts/salvage yards like there are for cars and trucks and houses, or do you have to order new parts from dealers? The camper is currently in Vermont, but we are planning to bring it to New York where we live. I'm grateful for any guidance folks might have.
Contact Colin at GSM Vehicles, www.GSMvehicles.com who is located in Plattsburgh, NY - he has at least 10 Airstreams there, and does Airstream repair. He has a certified sheet metal repair guy on staff. My 1958Sovereign of the Road is currently there undergoing a complete rebuild.
Also, download and listen to www.theVAP.com for some more information.
Thanks for the info. I will contact GSM today. The fellow we bought the camper from said there was someone in Plattsburgh, but he couldn't remember the name and I couldn't find it under Airstream Dealers on the web.
Good luck with your '58 Soverign. Maybe I'll see it in Plattsburgh soon.
"The Tube" will be joining your Vagabond at GSM next week
Leon and I are bringing "The Tube" up to Plattsburgh, NY right after Christmas for Colin and company to do her exterior restoration over the winter months.
As she is the best Airstream in the world (imho) she deserves to look beautiful again.
