First Post from Dallas

I've been "lurking" for a while now. It feels good to be going "live."

Looking for other A/S heads in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. So many of the trailers for sale are in California, Florida and the northern tier of states (on Ebay) it's hard to go look before buying.

I am eager to hear from locals about their A/S experience.

My goal is to find a smaller, older A/S that is mechanically sound but needs cosmetic work. Love the state and national park systems and want to go exploring.

Metroplex Market! Where are you? I remodeled a house this spring; it turned out great! Ready to do the same with an A/S.

Does any one have or know a shade-tree A/S mechanic for the plumbing and wiring?

I am ready for new adventures and any advice.

Welcome

Welcome to the 'streamin life in Texas! We're about 100 miles SW of you in Stephenville. There are lots of great Airstream folks in Texas. Give us a call sometime and we'll be happy to help you get acquainted.

Hope you can find your perfect Airstream soon. The search can be a long one at times. Most trustworthy place on the internet is right here on the Forum's Classifieds. Next do a search for Airstreams on crazedlist.org in your area.

As far as mechanics or dealerships are concerned you might talk with David Tidmore with the Roger Williams Airstream dealership in Weatherford. He has been very helpful to us.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Gladney,

Welcome to the forums. Although I am from California... folks from Texas have helped me out in the past! I suggest you check out the rally calendar and see if there is anything near you, or something you are willing to travel to... attending a rally will offer you the opportunity to visit and meet Airstreamers, talk to them about their 'streams, and likely be invited to take a look inside some of them!

Don't forget to read through the great threads on this forum that can answer all sorts of questions!

Do your homework, look all you can, and jump when the trailer that you just "love" comes up for sale! It is out there!

I found mine locally by watching e-bay, finding an add then driving to see it with cash in hand. I suggest you be well informed with the potential problems these units are susceptable too and be ready to jump quickly.

Go see Randy at North Dallas RV. They specialize in Airstreams. They are located on 35E at frankford on the east side of the highway. I live in West FT Worth and wouldn't take my vintage Safari anywhere else. They usually have a few units for sale and alot more to see.

Welcome to the Airforums, Gladney (former lurker)...glad you decided to jump in...you'll be glad you did...being a lurker is like being a wall flower at a party...no one knows you're there! Now you're in trouble—we know you're here! Ha!

Good luck on finding just the right Airstream...it will find you in the fullness of time...which will proablly be sooner rather than later...once you decide to go for it, it really begins to happen.

Welcome to the forums Gladney. You are probably wanting to get into an airstream sooner than this, but if you haven't found one by early February, come to the 2nd Annual Texas Vintage Rally to be held in Montgomery, Texas from February 6 through the 10th. Last year there were approximately 30 vintage units and about 50 later models in attendence with several of them for sale. Overall, it was the best rally I believe I've ever attended as far as the "fun" factor was concerned. Its a great place to talk airstreams and learn from each other while seeing what others have done with their treasures. Check out the upcoming rallies section here on the forum. One of the co-hosts is the North Texas Unit which is generally centered on your area of Texas.

Another place that recently paid off for one of my friends was to check out the airstreams that are listed for sale on the bulletin board at the North Texas Airstream community in Hillsboro. This is an all-airstream community that is located right off I-35. Generally, there are a half dozen or more units listed for sale by members who just can't tow anymore which can be viewed right there in Hillsboro. My friend got a very good deal on a very good '87 model.

Finally, there are numerous listings at any given time here on the classified section of the forums and on ebay.
