Family from Upstate SC
Hello!
We’re looking to begin our airstream journey with two airstreams to house our large family (5 kids) while we build our home and have future usability for travel and guest housing!
Can’t wait to find our airstreams and get started!

Welcome from Colorado: Building a house sounds like fun, and sounds like a monster job. I've never done it, but I did build a dog house once. An Airstream trailer can keep you warm and dry. It will take some infrastructure to keep you warm and dry. You will need 120v, 30 amp service to both trailers. You will need a good fresh water supply to both. And you will need a waste water disposal site, like a septic tank or city sewer connection to both trailers. There, now you are all set. Oh, and don't forget more frequent trips to the grocery store as the refrigerators aren't big family big.

Welcome! I live in Nashville now, but was raised in a small town north of Columbia. My dad is buried in Wesminster so very stomping grounds up there.
When I was a kid, Travelers Rest had one of the finest marching bands in the nation!

Yes, David, building feels like a huge undertaking, but I think being on site well help it go more smoothly and quickly! One can hope!
Excellent suggestions — we’re getting utilities put in as a first order of business and will make sure we have appropriate access for the ASs. And very good point on the fridge / freezer!
We adore Travelers Rest and won’t be going too far. This area is truly home, @djarrett!

Welcome to the, soon to be, Airstream experience. We considered the same thing a decade ago. Since I didn’t have accommodations to renovate a trailer, we built a barn with an apartment first. We lived there while building the house. Then we got the aluminum bug. In hindsight, as David recommended, I wish we had installed all the necessary hookups for a trailer. We eventually did, but a bit more challenging. Sounds like y’all have a plan. Good luck and hope you find the trailers you’re looking for.

We’re from the Greenville area and love TR. Not trying to rain on your parade, but I think your usage of funds would be better served by renting a house while yours is being built. This gives you time to research the market and keep your money growing. Assuming you will be borrowing money for the house and the Airstreams, watch out that the purchase of the AS’s doesn’t mess up your house loan. I’m thinking about your needs to sleep the 5 kiddos. Interesting challenge to find a combination two of Rv’s that will house the whole clan in the most efficient manner. Don’t forget about the two tow vehicles that will be needed as well. Some of the fifth wheel toy haulers have bunks in the garage area in addition to the rest of the trailer so that may be an alternative to consider.

Welcome.
TR is a beautiful area. We enjoy that area, and we especially enjoy some Farmhouse tacos.
Best of luck with your endeavor.

Thanks for mentioning those thoughts! So, the size of our family does require some creativity with the solution -- but our primary motivation to jumping ship from our current house is 1, the sale (obviously), but 2 getting on site with all our animals! We have about 70 chickens, 11 goats, and a pack of livestock guardian dogs! Definitely want to be closer at hand to manage that transition into a new living environment with new and greater predator pressure. Financially, we see it as a long term investment for our traveling purposes as well as guest space on our property.
Hopefully we can pick models / layouts that will work for the short term and long term goals!

I might add that several Airstream Forums members have built bunk beds for the kids. I plan on doing the same thing in my vintage 1975 Overlander so the grandkids will have a place above the original twin beds in our trailer. Some of the bunks are "hammocks" and some are plywood bottoms with thin mattresses. You gotta build them safe so a child doesn't roll over and end up falling.
Anyway, just a thought for making more sleeping surfaces.
You folks are quite the farmers. Lots of chores everyday.

Welcome to the family. If looking for gently used one, try Craigslist as well as this forums classifieds. OneCraigs is a national search, so be specific. Remember, hunting for one is half the fun. Good luck
