exciting but issuses

hello out there: bought `81 28` excella in march. Towed it from arizona to washington state with no problems. Have put on about 3000 mi so far and have found ALL four tires are rubbing on their sides against wheel wells. have worn one hole so far with no fire. Am using st225/75/15 goodyears. Will be checking backspacing soon. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks, jerry

Check the wheel offset first, and then the axle condition. Does the trailer ride very low? Can you take some pictures of the wheels adn teh damaged areas and post them here?

I think that year trailer originally came with bias tires. Width of radials is different. Where is the wear occuring? (on the outer sidewalls?) You may need to go back to bias. Are they the original steel or alumium rims? May have the wrong wheels on it.

exciting but issues

First of all, trailer was made oct 24 `80 and reg. says `81.
Wear is on the inside portion of well against a 20" x 12" aluminum sheet that is on all wells near all tires............original?
wheels not steel, look like alum.
not sure how to measure backspace yet but from backplate of wheel to front side [thru lug hole] is 9/16".
wear on tires is just 1/4 " below where tread starts.
am investigating weak springs/shocks.
tire pressure is 44# for specs that say 50# max.

will get back when i have more, thanks for input
