Eager to learn
Been a life long camper, on the ground. Wife and I took a 3 week road trip this summer and had two revelations. We're getting to old for a tent and airstream folks are good people. Last kid out of college this year, we're gonna have a trailer. But it must be a classic, period. I'm a restoration nut, old houses, old cars, old fly rods, why not a camper. Have been researching airstream for months and I'm ready to start, need to keep the gross weight to 3500# max. I've noticed Argosy is far more rare and that appeals to me. I've also found far less info on the Argosy. There is no substitute for experience, I'd really appreciate opinions and comparisons between the two from the people who've had them before I jump in.

Welcome to the Forum Putback. Playing with the Search option will provide you with answers to almost anything Airstream/Argosy you can think of and then some. If you have questions this is the place to find and also to ask them.
Hope you are able to find the trailer that fits your needs. Sleeping on the ground can wear pretty thin. Funny, when I was thin, sleeping on the ground didn't seem to matter. Now that I'm "not thin" I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than sleep on the ground. Not that I'm spoiled or anything.
As for lightweight - you may need to go '68 and older Airstream to get into the weight range you are looking for, depending on the length you are hoping for.

Welcome the the Forums
You have made a wise decision. An Airstream or an Argosy is definitely the way to camp. Check out the Classifieds here. It’s where I found my Excella this January.

Welcome, fellow Vermonter
Welcome to the forums. We have a newer Airstream, but have noticed that many in the northeast have vintage units. Argosies are really nice, but you might have to travel a bit to find one.

Welcome!
Welcome to the forums.
We went from a VW bus in the 70's to a big 5th wheel in the 90's and a whole lot of stuff inbetween. Tent camping as well. Throughout most of those years we had a 1946 Teardrop, which we still have. Great little camper! But in the words of "getting a little too old..." and looking for a few creature comforts [indoor plumbing in the middle of the night!] we decided on Airstream!
We have a 1963 Bambi and just love it! It is simple, roomy for its size ~ we can sit 4 to 6 inside! Our little trailer weighs 1850 [that was new and not packed with clothes and food...]. We added a little weight in our restoration, but not too much!
I hope you find just the right Airstream! It took us awhile to find just the right one, but it does happen! And, you are absolutely correct, Airstreamers are great folks!
Welcome again.
Mrs. NorCal Bambi (traveling in S Tardis)
