Dream Comes True

It has been Ann's dream to own an Airstream since we were dating 30+ years ago. Saturday, it came true when we bought a 25' Safari SE! Looking forward to at least 30 more years.

We will pick it up next Saturday and probably do a maiden voyage soon after. Tow vehicle is a 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid 4WD. The book says 6000# trailer weight so I am comfortable that we will do OK. Anyone have any hybrid experience?

I am sure we will have a ton of questions once we take possession.

Welcome.

After 30 years of dating and a plan to date for 30 more years, maybe you should get married. Just a thought.

I'll be interested to hear how the hybrid tows. The torque from a stop ought to be great.

Welcome Kevin and Ann,

Wow, 30 years, that great. Now lets see if you can make it another 30 years in 25 feet of sheer luxury.

I use a F250 Diesel as a tv. Let us know how the hybrid works.

Caveman,

I have read of hybrid vehicles used to power homes during a power outage. (and on doing a bit of searching my memory, found this article in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/au...0houses&st=cse)

So, if you can use a Prius hybrid to provide up to 3KW of power on demand, would it be possible to replace the propane powered systems with electrics, essentially powered by gasoline? A/C would be possible when boondocking, etc etc. An electric fridge would be simpler and cheaper, (and probably lighter) than a propane/12V/110V fridge.

Thanks To All

Thanks for all the kind replies to our first message. We picked up the Safari on Saturday. We planned to take it home, park it on a level spot on the lawn and sleep in it on saturday night. It rained all day and the ground was too soft to drive on so we bite the bullet and drove to a nearby state park for our maiden voyage. It was great! The weather was dismal but the campground was about 80% filled. Everything worked and we were safe and cozy all night. We had a couple of minor skirmishes over backing up and a pair of missing latex gloves on our first visit to the dumping station! All-in-all, a great experience! I ill post pix later.

Kevin and Ann

Welcome to the forums from SW Colorado. Good to have you aboard. Keep a watch on the forum for rallies to be held in your area. If you have not signed up for the Wally Byam Club, take a look at the Four Corners Unit. We have several rallies in Arizona in the winter time and do high country camping in the summer. Many of our members are from Phoenix/Tuscon area along with many other states. We do a lot of camping at the Dead Horse Ranch at Cottonwood, Az.

You can also check out other camping units. Go on Airstream.com and click on their links and it will take you to various units. Again, good to have you aboard.
