Considering 2008 Safari (not SE)

My wife and I have found a 2008 28' Safari basic model (not an SE). It is in very good condition and has seen limited use (only 4 outings of a few hundred miles by the current owner). A Hensley hitch comes with the vehicle and it is priced at $36,000. It is a non-smoking unit but the owners have pets. There is no pet odor.

We have some concerns about this particular model. First, it does not have the riveted windows. The windows have a rubber gasket on the outside and inside of the unit. These windows are also on the current Sport models. Has anyone had issues with these windows?

We would prefer a gas oven to the combo convection microwave located under the gas cooktop. Is it possible to install the gas oven under the cooktop in place of the microwave? It appears it would be necessary to do some cabinet modification -- could this be done at Jackson Center?

We do not like the carpeting in the bedroom area. Is it difficult to replace?

It is not "generator ready"? Can I still use a generator on the unit by plugging the regular power cord on the unit into the generator?

The television is small (looks like about 15"). Can it be replaced easily with a larger screen unit?

Does anyone know what size inverter this unit would have or how I can determine size of the inverter?

Is the price reasonable for a unit in near new condition? Is there anything else we should be considering about the unit? I'm somewhat worried that being a base unit it may not be good for resale or trade a few years from now.

We are considering an F-250 diesel for a tow vehicle.

We've never owned an RV and are looking forward to acquiring our first Airstream and tow vehicle. Any insight forum readers can give us will be appreciated. We've enjoyed reading the forums for several months.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.

As to your questions. I can not answer them all, but I'll answer a few.

The price sounds pretty good, especially with w Hensley included.

The convection can be traded out for a gas over. There is probably someone here on the Forums who would trade you.

Our Lucy (2005 25FB) came with a 15" television. We originally replaced it wit a 19", and more recently replaced the 19" with a 23" Vizio. Theses were very easily done.

A Ford F-250 PSD should handle to towing duties very well.

We haven't any problems with the windows. We love the convection/microwave. We have the linoleum type floor and I should think you could easily replace your carpet. We do not have an inverter. Yes, the power cord plugs into the generator. Price sounds right.
