Coming Home Again
Hi! We are Scott & Amy.
We are former Airstream owners of a 2006 31' Classic Limited.
Last year we traded it in [gasp!] for a 2008 Domani fifth wheel by Carriage. We regretted the decision from the beginning -- in fact, we came close to backing out of the deal before we had left the dealership! But we were bewitched by two slide-outs and a 9' ceiling in the living area.
That was early August 2009. Since then we have pined for our Airstream and recently decided to trade the Domani in for a 2006 30' Classic with slide-out.
Please forgive us!!! We learned our lesson the hard way: Once an Airstreamer, Always an Airstreamer.
Looking forward to making new friends and seeing you on the road some day.
Scott and Amy

Welcome, Scott and Amy!
So sorry that you had lessons to learn. I am sure that you will make lots of new friends here and learn lots of things about your "new" Airstream. Welcome back!

Just whose forgiveness are you seeking here?
There are none here that posses that Providence. Although there are a select few who think they do.
As there are some here that apparently think Airstreaming is a religion and the long hunk of metal is a proverbial graven image. Much foolishness IMHO.
What would be a welcome contribution (or act of contrition if you like), would be the arithmetic of the three deals.
This would perhaps help many in approaching several possible scenarios in their tribulations of trading, buying, keeping, insuring, etc.

What happened with the 5th wheel
Hi Scott and Amy Would you mind sharing your experiences with your 5th wheel? What happened with the 5th wheel that made your decide to go back to an Airstream? I have a friend who was just got a new 5th wheel who was bragging !! Why it was better than my Airstream!! Thanks Jim A

durability
Hi Jim~
We were mainly concerned about the durability of the fifth wheel compared to the Airstream.
Obviously, there was more room in the fifth wheel, but we were disappointed with the fit and finish of it; the flimsiness of it left us questioning long-term durability.
It was much more difficult to tow and to set up camp. We were distinctily disappointed in that with the slides in, you could not reach the bathroom. In our first Airstream, of course you know, you can reach everything when hitched up. For example, there were many times when we stopped along our way in the Airstream, made sandwiches, ate them at the dinette, used the toilet and were back on the road again. With the fifth wheel you couldn't do a thing until you set up, stabilized, put the slides out, etc.
There is also the mystique of owning an Airstream which we missed. We still had the remaining months of our Airstream Life subscription and it cut us to the heart every month when the magazine arrived!
Safe travels!
Amy & Scott

p.s.
We camp through the winter here in Oregon and we noticed a lot of problems this winter that we had never had in the Airstream. It should be noted that this was a very mild winter here in '09. Last year we had 155" of snow at the trailer site (Airstream) and no problems related to the trailer.
The only problems that we encountered last year were power outages due to downed trees, etc. That had no bearing on the durability of the trailer.

No need to seek forgiveness here, you humbly admitted your error and took the steps to correct it. We have a motto here..."Whoever is without sin cast the first stone."
On second thought, maybe those without sin can refrain from casting the first stone...panel replacements can be a tad costly.
Scott&Amy, welcome home!

We do that a lot with our Airstream too, I would really miss that if the rv had to be all set up before we could hop in and use it!
