Checkin' in, new to the Forum '59 Overlander!

[/IMG]Hello Gang..

My wife and I just journeyed back to near Salem, Oregon yesterday with our new '59 Overlander. I saw this one on Craigslist last week and we were both hooked.

Our primary goal was to find a nice old trailer to park in a little campsite we've developed at our place in the country. Of course now that we actually HAVE her, we are both excited to get her road and camp-worthy . What began as a search for yard-art and a neat outdoor fort/shelter has turned us into monstors, potentially.

I look forward to doing a lot of reading here, learning where to start and how far we want to go. I know that at least 4 windows need replacement, one frame needs to be found. I know we need to clean up the wheels and replace hubcaps. I know we have a lot of good cabinetry but also some scuffed material and some missing drawers and pulls. I know we have a lot of appliances that are suspect, a missing fridge, a missing toilet seat, probably leaky propane lines and corroded valves and plumbing that may or may-not leak. I know we have at least 3 areas of floor rot but have no idea where to start, but it is already a bit sketchy stepping up into the door, as it is very soft..

And I know we need to have the electrical system checked out as the original plug/pigtail assembly was not ready to go. I have a lot to learn and research. I look forward to talking and learning, though.

Here is a pic of our new beauty. Cheers!

WOW! That's a nice lookin' Overlander!

There are a bunch of very active members here who have late-50's to early '60's Overlanders that have gone thru a ton of rebuilding. Lots of threads to read thru...

We have had our '63 for a few years and completely rebuilt her, this summer we will take her on a western tour for a few weeks.

Post LOTs of pictures as you work thru your new find.

On Edit: Welcome to the Forum!!!

Congratulations! She's a beauty.

You'll find several good threads here in this forum (reinergirl moved your thread to this sub forum -- you may want to click on that link and bookmark it. Some of us have documented our restorations here, while others blog. You'll often see links to those blogs in people's signatures. Captain Wilson's Overlander is a good example and he too is in the Pacific Northwest.

You'll find the 58-63 Overlander crowd here to be very helpful and welcoming.

They're in the thread I posted the link to above, Cliff I wish I'd taken some after a quick cleaning..I'm excited to keep after it, but have the floor being looked at for a while to see just how salvageable it is before going crazy on interior stuff..

If you end up replacing the floor (entire) it is not all that bad just take your time and
make it yours just stock up on 1/8 drill bits and mark the panels as they come out. Taking lots of pictures help us to remember how it goes back together! I am racing the rain to flip my frame back over and waiting on the son in law to get here to help. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and if I don't know I know someone that does.

Hi! I was sooo close to buying this trailer! But the cost of shipping was way to much given it had to go to LA (I'm in Melbourne Australia). I've since bought a 1960 Tradewind from Seattle, but I look forward to seeing what you do with this beauty
Regards,
Amy
