Blogging aboard our new Signature Series CCD

Finally, we join the ranks of Airstreamers. We are in love with our new 27FB CCD International. We are embarking on a long journey to see North America with our little girl. Our starting point is Colorado. We are complete novices which may be the best way to start--we are thoroughly optimistic.
So don't tell us about the bad stuff until we ask We'd like to remain as ignorantly blissful as long as possible! Until then, please wish us good luck!

If you care to follow our adventure you are welcome to check in on my weblog:

Were green with envy. Added your blog to my reader, and looking forward to following your journey. Make sure you stop by for Zarda's BBQ on 7 Hwy before you head this way. They don't understand BBQ in Colorado, but the Olathe Sweet Corn is unbelievable.

Actually, there is a really good Texas style BBQ in Durango that I was at a few years ago. Great brisket and ribs!

Thumbs up Best of luck! Safe travels!

Wonderful blog! Have a great time travelling and camping with your family--what a great experience for you all. Its amazing the vocabulary kids who camp achieve, for instance...our son can say "stabilizer" with the best of them, and he can crank them up and down!!

The Yamaha generator sitting currently in the condo garage needs a spot. Robert wants to have a hitch/platform thing added to the back of the trailer and I say, "Good idea," since the thought of carting it around in the Tahoe is unpleasant as is stowing it in the Airstream while in motion.
Yikes! There are whole threads on this bad idea!

I need to clarify my previous post (#10):

The quote is from lyrikel's blog - about wanting to transport a generator on the back bumper of their AS.

I wanted to point out that there are a few threads about this and that it is considered a bad thing to to to your AS. The bumper isn't structurally designed to carry much weight.

Thank you all who warned us about adding a platform to stow the generator. The Airstream dealer in Denver was happy to charge $750 to do this. Upon further discussion we were told it would void the warranty. Why didn't they warn us in the beginning?
Anyway, we have nixed the idea, though it was mine to begin with and my husband reluctantly agreed. So I guess we will store the Honda generator in the SUV or inside the Airstream.
Thanks again--we obviously have a lot to learn.
K.

You should be able to avoid the use of the generator if you practice electrical conservation when dry camping. Using few lights, lower wattacge lights (5W instead of 10W that come in the CCD overheads), or adding LED alternative to a few key fixtures. Ading solar panels would be even more benificial. However, none of these solutions are going to help you if you need to run a hair dryer, toaster or coffee pot. Some have made mounts to attach a generator (or two) to the a-frame of the trailer, just behind the LP gas tanks.

Also, If your in Summit County and want a good place to stay, relatively nearby to Kremmling is Williams Fork Reservoir. You can easily get a trailer into the campground on the east side of the reservior and your camping right on the water! Not sure if you'll have time to do this before you leave. Also, why go I-70 down to Denver and up I-25 when you could just go North towards Steamboat and meet I-80? It would be a MUCH prettier driver and less stressful than I-25. Advice from an Ex-Summit local.

Thank you, Westfalia, for the advice about heading north towards Steamboat Springs. Having not traveled that way we don't know how driveable the connecting roads would be, or our abilities. As I see it, we'd have to take 9 to 14 to 127 before hitting I-80. Is that the way you recommend?
