Talking Bitten by the Big Silver Bug

Just saying hello to everyone. I have recently purchased a 1968 Sovereign International. It was love at first sight! Now we have a love-hate relationship. I love her (Big Betty), she hates me. As soon as I fix one thing, I find something else that needs attention.

Finally got the lights to come on tonight. Anyone watching would have thought I was six years old and it was Christmas morning!! Of course, this was after we had to crawl in through a window because Betty had locked us out!

I am determined to win her over, though. She is definitely the biggest project I have had in awhile. I intend to be camping by spring. I hope Betty agrees!

You all are a wealth of knowledge. I am sure I'll be back here often to update the saga of Big Betty and pick up pointers.

Maureen

Welcome

Congratulations on your find to another Ohio vintage owner..!! Keep wooing her - I'm sure you'll win her over eventually.

Congrats, Maureen, yes the vintage coaches sometimes seem set in their ways and have a mind of their own. But they are worth the extra attention. Keep us posted on your adventures and definitely go camping in the spring. There's no better way to bond with your Sovereign than camping in it!

I've been "finding and fixing" on my '87 Excella for two years. I've continued to camp while improving/fixing the unit, and can testify you can do both at the same time. Besides, how better to find what needs fixing than to use it. Congrats on your find. I know the feeling!!

Big Betty... I love the name! And it sounds as if you are starting to define your relationship with her! I agree, using your Airstream is the best way to learn about it. It has really helped me define what I want to do in terms of refurbishing... Good luck to you! Pam

Big Betty

Hi Maureen! Welcome to the OH group. We seem to have alot of Ohioans who are watching these threads and this last summer some of us decided to try to get together for an informal couple of rallies. It is a loosely knit group, very laid back and relaxed. Those who can get together and camp have met at several locations and we hope to have more of these little rallies. We hope that you will be able to join us at one of them.
Larry and I are in LaGrange which is NNE of you by about an hour and a half.
We have had several Forums folks stop in and use our courtesy parking on their maiden voyage. You are always welcome!

Hi, Another Rally

The "Rivettes" are having a summer solstice rally just outside of Jackson Center, Ohio... Bring Big Betty... if she needs work that's a bit beyond you, perhaps you can have it done at the factory before or after our rally. We do plan to take the factory tour, and we hope Airstream will do a seminar for us too.
